The entertainment given at the opera
house last night by the pupils of the
Polytechnic college was one of the most
brilliant amateur performances ev er
presented In the city and the large
audience which was present shoived Its
appreciation Of the talent of the per-
formers by enthusiastically applauding
many of the numbers of the extensive
and varied program
The entertainment was given for the
benefit of the college library fund and
was the first ever presented by the
puplU of that worthy Institution In the
city And tho factulty und munager
of the college are to be congratulated
both upon the rare talent shown by the
young ladles and gentlemen us well ns
upon the financial success of the affair
The performance was opened with
the Tambourine March chorus This
chnrous was coninosed of about forty
young ladles and gentlemen w Jio gi ace-
luuy cxeouieu intricate evolutions wnue
singing the selection This was fol-
lowed by a vocal solo by Miss Annie
Doyd Crnanle Fly with Me which
difficult selection was rendered with
great sweetness Who Did a hu-
morous song was then Bung by the col
kee nice club and proved so entertain-
ing thnt Is was encored Miss Mary
Coeko rendered nn Instrumental duct
Then came the Famous Peak Sisters
und the talented young ladles who iep
resented them kept the audience in a
roar of laughter with thtlr comical
gestures and qunlnt old songs nnd
speeches A feature of their perform-
ance was the comb orchestra which
I laved Oolden Slippers with varia-
tions Miss Josle Crutch field then ren
deied n vocal solo nfter which a se-
lection for a quartette of rultars was
skillfully plnyed by the Misses Dojd
and Messrs potts and Xewsom Money
Matters a descriptive comical song
was sung and acted by Miss Pearl
Mackey and Mr Newsom nnd nai one
of the moJt entertaining numbers of
the program
