this morning and his examining trial
was fixed for Wednesday May 16
The killing and the causes which led
up to It were to say the least re
markable Ober has been living at
Ljnn for some year He know
Shields whp lived at Paris and few
months sine prevailed upon the lat-
ter to move to Lynn pro ml Bin a lo give

Shields and his pretty young wife
went to Lynn but the promised Job did
not materialize but work wart se-
cured soon at the gin The two fami-
lies were Intimate and visited each
other frequently
A few nights prior to the killing
Shields and wife went to Obefa to
spend the night While Shields was
away from the house Ober Went to
Mrs Shields bed and made Improper
proposals The young woman told her
husband the next morning about it
and now comes the strange part of the
affair
Shields and his wire agr ed that
Shields should retaliate upon Ober by
making Improper proposals to Mrs
Ober He did so and Mrs Ober
whacked him over the head Bhr told
her huHband and he declared that he
would force Shields to come to his
house and submit to a cow hiding from
Mrs Ober Shields hid out for a day
or two and then returned to the gin
to work
Filday morning Ober went to the gin
Shields saw him coming He picked up
a shotgun Ijlng by him and com
pi a tided Ober to halt Instead of doing
so Ober went for his gun Hhlulds
then fcred one of the bullets penetrat-
ing Obers Ik art killing him Instantly
Shields wife had told him of Obers
threats and he had borrowed the gun
from a neighbor anticipating trouble
