Oapt. S<xton, Mr.Bickhamand Mr.
Koen were among those who return-
ed last Saturday from the Memphis
reunion.
Good rains were reported in nearly
every part of the county last Satur-
day night, but it was light in Gold-
th watte.
Key. J. W. Kelley left Wednesday
for San Angelo to attend district
conference and will go from there
to his work at Menardvllle,
Walter Fairman and wife expect to
leave the flrsc of the comiig week for
Seattle, Wash., to attend the Alaska-
Ynkon-Paolao exposition. Thev will
be accompanied by Mrs. W. B. Ever-
ltt, who will visit her sister in tba
city.
The Priddy picnic next Friday and
Saturday will attraot a large number
of people from this city and other
parts of the oonnty. The people of
that community are always hospita-
ble and a picnic in that community is
always a auccesa.
The protraoted meeting held in the
Methodist ohnroh dosed last Sunday
sight and Bev. A. M. Martin, who
assisted in the meeting and did the
preaching, left Tuesday morning for
San Angelo to attend quarterly oon-
ferecce He is a forceful speaker
and his sermons here were enjoyed
by large congregation* and those who
made his acq&sintance daring his
stay will be glad for him to visit the
town and hold another meeting at
some future time.
Bev. and Mrs. Jno. Hudson re-
turned home last Tuesday from Ben-
tonville, Ark., where they attended
the General Assembly of the Cumber-
land church in annual session at that
place. They visited relatives and
friends In Arkansas several days and
their trip was a very pleasant one.
Brother Hndson' reports the Assem-
bly a very profitable and instructive
factor of carrying out the work of the
church.—Bound Book Leader.
Arranging Displays
A great many of the business
men are busy arranging their
displays for the parade Monday
morning and the details will all
be perfected by 10 o’clook sharp
Monday, at whioh time the
parade will start near the depot.
All merchants and other business
men are urged to take part in the
parade and help to make a good
showing for the town. Those
who have good stock and other
displays they wish to enter in the
parade will be welcome to do so.
Mr. Sam Raltf has been appoint-
ed marshal of the day and he
will be at the starting of the pa-
rade to assign position to all who
wish to take part.
The Goldthwaite Concert band
will lead the parade and there
will be displays in the procession
that will be attractive and inter-
esting. Those who miss this
part of the day’s entertain-
ment will have cause to regret it,
Te Serve Dinner
The Ladias of the Home Mis-
sion society will serve dinner in
the court house on Trades Day.

It is claimed b$ J. W. Rogers
of Laoey, Okla,, that he has in-
vented and patented a maohine
that will pick cotton uteaner than
it can be picked by hand, and
will do the work of twelve men in
the same period of time. Mr,
Rogers says that he can go into
a field of ootton that has been
picked by cotton pickers and
with his machine get 100 pounds
of ootton to the acre that has
been left by the piokers, The
machine can be manufactured
and sold for about $150 to $175.
It represents in a great way the
self-binder for small grain, the
operator driving between the
rows, and it picks the ootton
clean as it goes.
A family took refuge in their
storm house near Haskell last
Friday during a storm and their
residence wasblown down on the
•term oellar, which caused it t>
cave in killing two women and
four ohildren,
A farmer near Bonham was
struok by lightning and the aims

The proposition to levy a
special road tax was defeated in

Miss Cora Collins Dead.
The remains of Miss Cora
Amanda Collins, daughter of the
late Mr. A. S. Collins, arrived
here on Wednesday morning's
train and the funeral was held
at 10:30 o'clock that morning.
Miss Collins died in Fort Worth
Monday night. Mrs. W. Frank
Collins was with her when the
end came and accompanied the
remains here for interment, The
young lady was reared in this
city and lived here until the
death of her father, when she
went to Fort Worth to make her
home. She was a niece of Mrs.
Hester of this oity and Mrs,
Jones of Brown’s oreek commun-
ity and has other other relatives
in this city and county.
San Saba is to have anew
school building, the people
having voted almost unanimously
in favor of bonds to erect a new
building and a tax for maintain-
ing the sohool.
