and deliver an address. Rabbi
Nathan H. Colish and Cantor Is-

Following the services, Mr. and

ception in honor of the Bar Mitz-

The regular meeting of the
Houston Junior Council will be
held at the home of Mrs. Thomas
Freundlich, 419 Avondale, Mon-
day night, at 8 o’clock. Following
the meeting a social will be held,
honoring the brides-elect of the
organization, which include the
president. Miss Sybilla Stiliman
and Misses Alyda Harris, Regina
Meyer and Roslyn Rosenfield.

MERRY MUSIC MAKERS CLUB
Merry Music Makers Club, or-
ganized by Mrs. Nathan H. Col-
ish, met at the studio Saturday
afternoon in a regular musical
fest to study the History of Mu-
sic.
The origin and development of
music notation was discussed and
the comparison made between
the early system and the present
alphabet.
Piano compositions, played by
Howard Finston, Renee Battel-
stein and Sophie Evelyn Wert-
heimer, were acclaimed by the
group.

B. L C. NEWS
Another social success to the
credit of the B. I. C. and N. I. C.
Clubs, is the all day picnic held
at MacGregor Park, Sunday,
February 2L 1937. The day start
ed with a ball game, then lunch
was served. After lunch, a party
of 25 set out for a hike, through
the woody section. A very pleas-
ant time was had by everyone
present.
Final plans have been com
completed for the Annual Char-
ity Dance to be given May 2, at
the End o’ Main Dance Hall. The
dance is being conducted in
novel manner. Members will be
supplied with punch boards, each
board allowing a prize. Instruc-
tions are given to charge no
more than 35c per punch, and
present the purchaser with
free ticket to the dance, which
will be used as a chance on the
grand prize to be given away
that night.
Make your date and plan to
attend. All Houston will be there.

Columbia, died in a local hospital
Friday. He had been a resident
of Houston for the past eight
years and was a member of
Tucker Lodge No. 297, A. M. and
A. M. of Galveston, and Congre-
gation Adath Yeshurun. Surviv-
ing are her wife, Mrs. Jennie
Gershen; three daughters. Miss
Margarete Gershen, Miss Helen
Gershen and Miss Estelle Ger-
shen; a son, Louis Gershen, all of
Houston, and two sisters, Mrs. P.
Berman of Chicago and Mrs.
Mille Freeman of Galveston.
Funeral services were held from
the chapel of the Westheimer-
Yollus Funeral Home Sunday
with Rabbi Sanders A. Tofield
officiating. Burial in Adath Yesh-
urun Cemtery. Pallbearers: Mey-
er Simon, Max Davis Sidney
Becker, Morris Kaplan, Bennie
Shapiro and Dave Tashneck.
Alex Rosenthall, 68, of 2103
Tangley, died at his residence
Friday at 7:20 a.m. Mr. Rosen-
thall had been a resident of
Houston for the past 45 years and
was a member of the B’nai B’rith
and Adath Yeshurun Congrega-
tion. Surviving him are his wife,
Mrs. Esther Rosenthall three sons
Leon and Herbert Rosenthal of
Houston, and Albert Rosenthall
of Huntsville; a daughter, Mrs.
Morris Glosserman of Lockhart,
and a sister, Mrs. John Nelkin of
Houston. Funeral services from
the residence Sunday, with Rabbi
Sanders A. Tofield officiating.
Burial was in Adath Yeshurun
Cemetery. Pallbearers: Louis
Rosensweig, Louis Lands. Adolph
Sprung, Arthur Schwarz, Ben
Sc heps, and P. Glosserman.

Julian M. (Duke) David, 44,
died at his home, 4811 Jackson,
Saturday. He had lived in Hous-
ton for the past 33 years and had
been engaged in the brokerage
business. He was a member of
Temple Lodge, A. F. and A. M.,
Houston Consistory of the An-
cient and Accepted Scottish Rite
of Freemasonry, and Arabia Tem-
ple Shrine; member of the Rotary
Club and Houston Turnverein.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ella
Mrs. Fannie Cohn Miller, 65,
of New York, died in a local
hospital Monday. Mrs. Miller
was formerly of Houston and had
been here two months on a visit
She is survived by her husband,

Moe M., Ben an<T William Miller
all of New York one brother,
L. S. Cohn; three sisters, Mrs.
Rose Edelstein, Mrs. H. C. Kap-
lan of Houston and Mrs. Sarah
Fink of Chicago. Funeral ser-
vices were held Tuesday, Rabbi
Nathan Colish officiating. The
body was sent to New York.
