Angelo State knocks off TWU
SAN ANGELO — TWU was unable to hold off
No. 16 Angelo State on Saturday and dropped a 25-
16,17-25, 25-20, 25-22 decision.
Josie Santos led the Pioneers with 11 kills while
Marcela Alves and Jaqueline Santos each added
nine. Josie Santos added 13 digs for second double-
double of the weekend. The Pioneers had 15 total
team blocks, led by Chloe’ Tate with seven blocks
assists and one solo block. Alves recorded four solo
blocks and two block assists.
In the first set, the Pioneers struggled offensive-
ly with eight hitting errors; Angelo State jumped
out to an 11-1 lead. In the second set, TWU settled
down and posted a .195 hitting percentage to even
the match with an eight-point win.
In the third set, Angelo State broke a 4-all tie with
an 8-2 run. The Rambelles led 19-13 before TWU ral-
lied to get within 23-20. ASU scored the final two
points on a kill and an attack error by the Pioneers.
TWU was in control of the fourth set and built a
21-15 lead before the Rambelles scored 10 of the final
11 points, including seven straight to close the match.
The Pioneers (14-7,6-3 Lone Star) will visit Tex-
as A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Marion sparks preseason victory
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shawn Marion had 13
points and eight rebounds, leading the Mavericks
to an 89-83 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on
Saturday night.
Jose Calderon contributed 13 points and five as-
sists for the Mavericks, who never trailed in the
second half and built a lead of as many as 16 points
in the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats’ three-game winning streak was
snapped despite 14 points and 10 rebounds off the
bench from rookie Cody Zeller.
Bobcats guard Ben Gordon sat out after a pro-
cedure to relieve soreness in his right knee.
Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki did not play, get-
ting a night of rest despite occasional “We want
Dirk!” chants from some of the 7,678 fans at
Greensboro Coliseum.

FC Dallas keeps Seattle from clinching
FRISCO, — Michel had a goal and an assist to
help FC Dallas beat Seattle 2-0 on Saturday, pre-
venting the Sounders from clinching a playoff spot.
Michel, who replaced Kenny Cooper in the 58th
minute, scored in the 87th minute after he tapped
a shot into the right corner of the net from the top
of the goalie’s box.
Michel set up FC Dallas’ first goal in the 65th
minute when he arched a free kick to Matt Hedges.
Hedges redirected the pass with a header from
about 10 yards away that bounced off the ground
and into the top left corner of the net.
Seattle is on a six-game winless streak. Clint
Dempsey came close to scoring in the 80th minute
but pulled a free kick just wide left of the net.
The game was the final home game for FC Dal-
las coach Schellas Hyndman, who announced Fri-
day that he is stepping down as coach at the end of
this season after taking over in June 2008.

Sauter escapes late crash for third win
TALLADEGA, Ala. — Johnny Sauter raced to
his third Camping World Truck Series victory of
the season Saturday, surviving a huge crash on the
final turn at Talladega Superspeedway that took
out everyone else racing at the front of the pack.
Three sets of trucks paired up in the closing laps
— Sauter with series leader Matt Crafton, Kyle
Busch with Dakoda Armstrong, and Ross Chas-
tain with Parker Kligerman.
Sauter was the only one to be spared from a 12-
truck crash that occurred when Jeb Burton got
tangled up with Busch, sending the Sprint Cup star
slamming into both the inside and outside walls.
Miguel Paludo’s truck flipped and slid across the
line upside down.
Sauter took the checkered flag in his No. 98
Toyota, while David Starr weaved through the car-
nage to claim second place. Chastain sustained
heavy damage but slid across the line in third.
Crafton wound up ninth and extended his lead in
the standings to 57 points over Ty Dillon with four
races remaining. James Buescher slipped from sec-
ond after being taken out in an earlier crash.
Hinchcliffe re-signs with Andrett
FONTANA, Calif. — James Hinchcliffe will re-
turn to Andretti Autosport in 2014 with sponsor-
ship from United Fiber & Data. The team, mean-
while, will switch from Chevrolet to Honda.
The manufacturer change to Honda an-
nounced before Saturday night’s season finale had
been expected after rival Chip Ganassi said two
weeks ago he was moving to Chevrolet.
The re-signing of Hinchcliffe went down to the
wire. Not only did Andretti need a new sponsor to
replace Go Daddy, but Hinchcliffe had been in dis-
cussions with Ganassi on a multi-series program.
