At an informal luncheon and
meeting of the Adath Yeshurun
Sisterhood, held last Tuesday,
special honors were paid to
members who had responded to
the call of the Red Cross Surgi-
cal Dressing Department. These
‘women in white’ who are edntri-
buting so generously of their
time and effort to this worthy
cause and who are setting so fine
an example to our American Jew.

An event of wide-spread in-
terest on this occasion was the
award of the Victory Bond. The
lucky man was Harry Loshak;
second prize of a $5.00 stamp book
was won by David Hirsh.
As a gas and tire economy
measure, the board meeting was
held prior to the luncheon. It
was decided to hold a Chanukah
luncheon party on December 6
immediately following Sunday
School. This promises to be a
most enjoyable occasion for both
the children and parents, ac-
cording to plans being made by
Mrs. Ann Abramson.
Mrs. Maurice Kaplan gave an
encouraging report of the memb-
ership committee. New members
will be honored at the next lunch,
eon held by the Sisterhood on
December 1.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Melton
announce the birth of their son
on October 30,1942. at St. Joseph’s
Infirmary The baby is the grand-
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Proler
of this city.
The Brith Millah service will
take place Sunday. November 8,
at 1 p. m. at St Joseph’s Infirm-
ary. All friends are cordially in-
vited, and invitations are issued
only through the press.

ary, with Cantor Max Landman
performing the circumcision. Mr.
H. Reichek, paternal grandfather,
was Son dick, Mr. William Reichek
and Mrs. Aaron Pasternek were
godparents; Mr. Louis Platt was
honored with Kise Shel Eliyohu
and Mr. Max Pasternek, maternal
grandfather, held the baby for
the blessing offered by Rabbi N.
H. Colish and Rabbi Josef L.
Herbst naming the baby "Stephen
Lawrence.”

protests or threats will deter him
from the continuation of his pol-
icy of deporting Jews, Plerrf
Laval told reporters at Vichy,
when he was asked what effect
had been achieved by appeals
from Catholic religious leaders
and from Frenchmen generally.
