Banquet Nov. 18
The second class to participate
in an Adath Yeshurun Religious
School Induction Service will be
presented to the Congregation on
Sunday morning, November 8th.
The Service will be held in the
Synagogue at 11:30 instead of the
usual assembly program. Parents
and graduates are invited to par.
ticipate and a section of the syna-
gogue will be reserved for them.

southwestern field secretary for
U. P. A., as the combined field
secretary for both UPA and the

kansas, Texas and part of Louis-
iana These states will consti-
tute the new Southwestern Re-
gion. These changes were an-
nounced to the delegates at the
national convention.

The Committee for a Jewish
Army of Palestinian and Stateless
Jews has set aside Tuesday, Nov.
17th as a day for proclaiming the
right! of the Palestinian and
Stateless Jews. A proclamation
signed by thousands of leading
Americans will be issued, and
will be distributed and publicized
by means of dinners and meetings
held simultaneously throughout
the country, under the slogan,
“They Fight For the Right to
Fight" The Campaign will be
of international importance, and
will have far-reaching repercus-
sions. It is destined to become
a decisive event in modem Jew-
ish life.
The importance of the work
of the Committee for a Jewish
Army is indicated in a recent ad-
dress by one of its members,
Senator Elbert D. Thomas, Demo-
crat of Utah, in which he asks
for “Recognition of the fighting
Jews of Palestine as our Allies.”
The address was delivered at a
mass meeting in New York com-
memorating the 25th anniversary
of the Balfour Declaration.

ESKIN OF BRENHAM
Brenham — Rabbi L Eskin of
the Brenham Synagogue B’nai
Abraham, died at his residence in
the Ross apartments at 3 a. m.
Friday, October 30th, death fol-
lowing a heart attack he suffered
during the night. For the past
year he had been in failing nealth
and a number of attacks had pre-
ceded that which caused his death.
He was about sixty years of age.
The body was taken to the Leon
Simank Funeral Home, where it
was prepared for burial by Rabbi
Max Geller of Houston, according
to the Orthodox ritual of the He-
brew faith. Instructions have
been received from his son in
Detroit, Michigan to ship the body
there.
Funeral services were held Sat-
urday night, October 31st, at 10:30
p. m. in the local B'nfti Abraham
Synagogue with Rabbi Max Geller
of Houston officiating.
Rabbi Eskin is survived by his
widow, who for years has been
an invalid and has made her home
in Detroit He also leaves two
sons and a daughter, all of whom
reside in Detroit.
A brilliant Jewish scholar of
Russian ancestry, Rabbi Eskin
was educated in Hebrew univer-
sity in Europe, and during his
entire life was an earnest student
of Jewish literature. He leaves
a very large library, including
some rare and valuable volumes.
After residing in Detroit for
some years Rabbi Eskin came to
Texas and had served Jewish
synagogues in Corsicana, Fort
Worth, and Dallas before coming
to^ Brenham. He had been here
about six years and was faithful
and active in discharging every
duty incumbent upon him as lead,
er of the Orthodox Hebrew con-
gregation.
