CENTER NEWS
One big first inning was all
the time needed by the Jewish
Athletic Club to defeat the cel-
lar-riding M. M. Society.
Three straight hits and four
runs cascaded over the plate in
the initial uprising and the J.
A. C.’s added three more in the
fourth and one in the fifth for
good measure.
Carl Weil limited the M. M.’s
to four bingles, two by Shel-
don Gerson. Maurice Dushkin,
after a shaky start, settled down
the rest of the way and the 3
tallies off of him in the fourth
were unearned.
Harman Goldberg was the
man with the big stick in J. A.
C.’s 10-hit assault, hitting three
for three. Joe Wolff again star-
red in his outfield post.

BEAUTIFUL CENTER BUILDING
submitted to contractors this week for bids. It is ex-
pected that bids will be received within three weeks, and
that the Building Committee under Maurice N. Dan-
nenbaum. Chairman, will then meet to consider these bids.
Detailed plans for the new building will be on dis-
play at the Annual Meeting of the Jewish Community
Center on Wednesday. May 25th. at the Ben Milam Hotel
BRIDGE AND CHESS
CLUB NOTICE
The Wednesday night Bridge
and Chess Club will discontinue
play on Wednesday May 25th,
to afford its members the op-
portunity of attending the Jew-
ish Community Center's An-
nual Meeting at the Ben Mi-
lam Hotel. Classes and play
will be resumed on Wednesday,
June 1st
CENTER BOYS AND GIRLS
INVITED TO PARTICIPATE
IN JUNIOR OLYMPICS
Houston has been invited to
participate in the Junior Olym-
pics program held nationally
by the Amateur Athletic Un-
ion throughout the country,
which will terminate with na-
tional championships to be held
this year in Cleveland, Ohio.
Boys and girls in the age
groups of 10 through 17 may
enter track and field, boxing
and swimming events. Notices
of the entrance requirements
and various athletics competi-
tions have been posted on the
Center bulletin board. All int-
erested young people are in-
vited to see Jesse Osterweil or
Ed Astrich for further infor-
mation.

Victory Dance
A host of Center Division
workers and contributors were
on hand to celebrate a Victory
Dance given at the Westwood
Country Club last Thursday,
May 19th.
Bernard Weingarten, Center
Division Chairman announced
that the Center Division had
solicited pledges from well over
300 people, not including the
numbers of young children who
had given through their clas-
ses in Sunday School, which,
should bring the individual don
ors to well over 500 young pe-
ople. The Center Division had
also brought into the United
Jewish Campaign coffers $6500,
announced Mr. Weingarten.
This stun, he stated, would be
used to transport 120 children
from the DP camps in Europe
to Palestine.
This is the first year that the
Center Division has been com-
pletely on its own, with a
number of set groups which
will remain within the Divis-
ion and it was felt that a good
start had been made to be
used as a comparison to the
efforts that the Center Divis-

The Jewish Community Cen-
ter Annual Meeting this year
will mark the first year where
Youth and Young Adults are
to elect representatives to the
Center Board of Directors.
A Nominating Committee cho
sai by the Youth and Young
Adult Council has nominated
Avrohm Wisenberg and Ber-
nard Weingarten to act as
Board Members this year with
primary responsibility of keep-
ing the youth informed of Cen-
ter board and building activi-
ties.
All youth activities mem-
bers are invited to the Annual
Meeting to be held at the Ben
Milam Hotel on Wednesday,
May 25th, at 7 p. m. Those who
do not wish to attend the din-
no: are most cordially invited
to attend the meeting to be
held at 8:30 p. m., at which
time reports of Center pro-
gress, building plans and el-
ections of Board Members will
take place. ,
Lag B’Omer Celebrated

Fifty children and their par-
ents attended the Lag B’Omer
May Day Party at the Center
last Tuesday morning. Singing,
dancing around the May Pole,
games, refreshments, and the
planting of a tree entertained
the children and parents.
Preparations for the party
and serving of refreshments was
taken care of by the Party Com
mittee, which consists of Mrs.
A. Goldfarb, Chairman, Mrs. R.
Rick, Co-Chairman, Mrs. A.
Rumsey, Mrs. N. Harwood, Mrs.
Ben Leff.
CENTER PLANS
SUMMER PROGRAM
The Youth and Young Adult
Council, at its last meeting,
Started to lay plans for the sum
mer activities program which
was so well attended and ran
so successfully last summer un-
der the chairmanship of Pinky
SigaL Adolph Uzick, Chairman
of the Council, has announced
the appointment of Ivan Knob-
ler as this year’s summer activ-
ities program chairman, who
will work out tournaments,
dances, open house nights with
Ed Astrich of the Center staff.
The summer activities sche-
dule will begin shortly after
CAMP TO HOLD REUNION
As a coming event casting its
shadow before the active Cen-
ter Day Camp season, all alum-
ni campers and prospective
campers for this coming year
are being invited to attend a
camp reunion to be held at the
Jewish Community Center on
Friday, May 27th, at 3:30 p. m.
A full program of games, re-
freshments and entertainment
is being planned for fhe chil-
dren at that time.
Jesse Osterweil, Camp Direc-
tor, has announced that camp
registrations have already gone
over the top for camp season
this year and that a waiting list
is being compiled for any open-
ings which may develop.
As in the past years, a full
program of games, athletics,
swimming, arts and crafts, mu-
sic and field trips have been
planned for the children this
year and a very healthy and
happy camping season is ex-
pected.

to the winners of the tourna-
ments of the previous season.
It is expected that a full tour-
nament actively including ping-
pong, badminton, paddle-tennis,
