If anyone questions the ability
of Hon. Jno. N. Garner to get
anything for his district from a
republican congress because he is
democrat, from a democratic
district, let them ask John R.
Black of Iowa, who recently
bought 23,000 acres of land in La
Salle county, Texas, what Mr.
Garner's republican colleagues
think of him. In that respect Hen.
1. Smith, Mr. Black’s iowa con-
gressman, had this to say to him:
‘ 1 think you are in Garner's
district, and if you are, you are
lucky. He is the hardest lighter
in the Texas delegation, and if
there is half a chance to get a
measure through, Garner is the
man to do it.’’
