WILLIAMS MORGAN
Herbert H. Williams died June
25,2001. He was bom December
31,1907 to T. J.and Julia Evridge
Williams. After graduating from
Comanche High School in 1926,
he attended Phillips Exeter
Academy in New Hampshire, The
University of Texas, and
graduated from Babson Business
College in Boston. He married
he former Margaret McFadden of
Austin, TX on December 29,
1932. She preceded him in death
n 1998.
Mr. Williams was a buyer and
ater a vice-president of
rligginbotham Bros. & Co. In
1943, he volunteered for Army
service and was stationed in
England and France for 31
months, attaining the rank of
Captain. He was a 50-year
member of Hope Masonic Lodge
#481 and a member of the First
Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his daughter
and son-in-law, Quay and Terry
McCall; grandchild, Leslie
McCall and her husband, Boris
Borozan, and their child, Margaret
Borozan; grandchild, William
McCall, and his wife, Elyn
McCall; sister, Editha Williams
Dudley; nephews, Jimes H.
Dudley, John E. Dudley, T. J.
Dudley, John Earl Williams, Tom
Williams, T. H. Williams, Mark
Williams, and Herbert Shear;
nieces, Julie Dudley Allison,
Camilla Shear Nichols, and
Mary Shear Dinn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials

Public Library, the Comanche
Museum, or the St. Matthew’s
Episcopal Church Memorial
Garden.

Comanche Community Hospital
in Comanche. TX.

2001 at the Comanche Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Ernest
Ray Holland officiating. Burial
was in the Oakwood Cemetery in
Comanche, TX with Comanche
Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
She was bom on January 23,
1914 in Brookesmith, Brown
County, TX to Frank Kirkland and
Hixie Lucille (McDaniel)
Kirkland. For 38 years Mrs.
Morgan, together with her
husband, Jack, owned and
operated Morgan’s Southside
Cafe. After leaving the cafe, she
worked as a nurse’s aid at
Western Hills Nursing Home for
four years. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Morgan was married to
Jack Morgan on November 2,
1928 in Comanche, TX. He
preceded her in death on January
10, 1975.
Survivors include three
daughters and son-in-law’s,
Delphine and Walter Wadsworth,
Elsmer “Poopie” and Dan

Mina Price of Amarillo died
June 8, 2001. Services were
held June 11, 2001 at the First
Baptist Church of Vega. Burial
was in.the Vega Memorial Park
Cemetery by N. S. Griggs &
Sons. The celebration of her
life was led by Rev. James
Peach of Vega with Rev. James
Wyatt giving the memorial
message. Memories of
grandmother were given by
Perri Craven and Laura Fisher.
Honorary Pallbearers were Cade
Price, Drew Price, Morgan
Price, Ken Gardenhire, Tom
Craven, Rick Fisher, Lawrence
Bagley, Ray Lynn Bagley, G. L.
Clayton, and Dusty Clayton.
Mrs. Price was born in
Sidney, TX on July 21, 1914.
She married Johnie A. Price on
December 25, 1931. He passed
away in 1998. She lived in
Vega for more than 55 years
before moving to Amarillo in
March of 2000. She was a avid
gardener and a homemaker. She
was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Vega, where
she had been a Sunday School
teacher for many years.
Survivors include a son,
Johnie and Becky Price;
grandsons, Cade, Dijew,
Morgan; granddaughter, Lisa of
Amarillo; two daughters, Sue
and Charles Gardenhire of Las
Cruces, NM, grandson Ken and
Judy of High Rolls NM, Joy and
Andy Cepumiek of Tulsa, OK,
two granddaughters, Perri and
Tom Craven, great grandchildren,
Conley and Bridgeman Craven of
Tulsa, OK; and Laura and Rick
Fisher, great grandchildren,
Christopher and Haley of
Monument, CO; a brother, R. L.
Bagley of Sidney, TX and a sister,
Beatrice Clayton of Granbury,
TX; an uncle, J. B. Livingston of
San Antonio, TX; a host of
cousins and friends.

Dessie Mae Elrod, 92, of
Carrollton passed away June 26,
2001 in a Carrollton Care
Center.
Graveside Funeral Services
are scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, June 28 in Oakwood
Cemetery in Comanche.
She was born on August 26,
1908 in Georgia. She was a
homemaker and a Baptist and
had been a resident of
Carrollton for the past three and
one half years moving there
from Kingsland, TX.
Mrs. Elrod is survived by two
sons, Paul Elrod and wife Mary
Lou of Houston, and Bill Elrod
of Dallas; one brother, Ford
Kennedy of Rector, Arkansas;
12 grandchildren and 13 great-
grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one
brother, James Elrod.

Orrel Reeves Isham, age 11 of
Canton, Texis died on Mohday,
June 18, 2001 after a lengthy
illnes& in Tyler, Texas. •

Edward Edwin and Caroline
Cecelia Staltenberg Adams. Ms.
Isham was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in
Comanche, Texas and the Agnes
Graham Sunday School class.
She attended services at the First
United Methodist Church in
Canton, Texas and was a member
of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a Worthy Matron of the
Comanche Chapter #310 from
2000-2001. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Buddy
Reeves in 1980.
Funeral services were at 2:00
p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2001
at the Eubanks Chapel in Canton,
Texas. Rev. Bill Hedges
officiated. Eubank Funeral
Home of Canton was in charge of
arrangements with Hall & Sons
Funeral Home of Comanche
handling the local arrangements.
Interment was at the Highland
Cemetery in Van Zandt County,
Texas.
Pallbearers were Kraig Reeves,
Kendall Reeves, MichaelSouthy,
and Shane Zimmerman.
Survivors include four sons,
Dennis Shelby Reeves of
Temple, Texas, Franklin Richard
and Linda South of Athens,
Texas, Kenneth Edward and
Kimberly Reeves of Comanche,
Texas, March Reeves of Canton,
Texas; one daughter, Cherie
Jeanette and Bob Veach of
Milan, NM; two brothers,
Kenneth Adams of Gregory, SD
and Don Adams of Denver, CO;
9 grandchildren; and, 6 great
grandchildren.

STAGGS
Mattie Buchanan Staggs, 78 of
Odessa, died June 25, 2001 at the
Avalon Place Nursing Center in
Odessa.
Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the
Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home
Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Brasswell
officiating. Burial will follow in
the Crane County Cemetery with
services under the direction of
Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of
Crane.
Mattie was born on February 5,
1923 in Goodrich, TN at Arch and
Beatrice Buchanan, the eldest of
nine children. She was a nurse for
23 years in the Odessa, Crane,
Waco, Austin, and Comanche
areas. She was a Baptist and an
active member of the American
Legion Auxiliary for 15 years.
She loved bowling, ceramics,
piecing quilts, fishing, boating
and all kinds of crafts.
Survivors include four
daughters, Pat Taylor of Paducah,
TX, Wanda Staggs and Brenda
Johnson, both of Odessa, and Lori
McCaleb of Boise, ID; a son,
Tony Staggs of Crane; three
sisters, Bertha Halbrooks of
Odessa, Christine Cobb of
Hollaway, TN, and Viola Biediger
of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren,
and 21 great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her
parents, three brothers, and two
sisters.
Beginning June 28; from 2:00
until 5:00, Cross Timbers Health
Clinic will have a Family
Planning Specialist in the clinic
to offer preventative health care
for women and .men who
experience low incomes, have
Medicaid or are uninsured.
Services being offered include
health assessments, physical
exams, breast and cervical or
testicular cancer screening,
diabetes and anemia screening,
sexually transmitted disease
screening (including free HIV
testing), referrals to BCHD for
treatment of std, pregnancy
testing and referral to Medicaid,
blood pressure and basic kidney
screening, lipid screening as
ordered by MD, birth control
methods, education and
counseling by licensed staff, and
individual or group education.
Anyone needing care is eligible
for this service. Adolescents
without parent consent and those
below 19 years of age are free.
Co-pay is on a sliding scale
depending on salary and number

Dear Friends:
The annual meeting of the Comanche Cemetery Association will be held on July 10, 2001
beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Comanche Housing Authority Meeting room. The building is located
directly across the street from Oakwood Cemetery on Cedar Street. The purpose of the annual
meeting is to elect directors and transact other business properly presented. Members of the Board
of Directors are: Ben Evridge, Preston Cox, Harold Roberts, Ruth Adele Waggoner, and Jim Roberts.
We cannot thank you enough for your interest and support shown by the memorials, bequests, and
donations received. A permanent fund for future care is one of our goals. The funds entrusted to us
are protected and used sparingly. We are a non-profit, tax exempt organization chartered by the State
of Texas for the expressed purpose of working with the City of Comanche in the care and
improvement of historic Oakwood Cemetery. Should you choose to bequeath hinds in your will,
information will be furnished concerning any questions you or your attorney may have. Our
volunteer group, along with community service workers supervised by the City of Comanche, works
the second Saturday of each month or more if a need arises.
Dues, memorials, and contributions should be mailed to Comanche Cemetery Association, P.O.
Box 362, Comanche, Texas 76442. Dues are $ 15.00 for individuals and $25.00 for a family per year.
Please use the enclosed envelope for your July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002 dues. All persons on
our mailing list are receiving this general notice of our annual meeting. In the event this reaches your
home at a time of sadness we apologize and ask for your understanding. Thank you for your interest
