MEMORANDUM
To: The Board of Trustees, Texas Human Rights Foundation
From: Kim Vickery, Acting Executive Director
Re: Office Update and Vacation info.
Date: June 3, 1992
Gee, I don't know if I can top Donald's memo, but I'll try....
As Donald already stated, we stepped-up our efforts on grants for ALRP, and, thus, everything else has
fallen to the wayside for now ("everything else" being the newsletter and a significant amount of the
daily office administrative work; not to fear, it'll get done, just not as rapidly as usual).
Funding letters and/or proposals have been sent to the Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation, the Fairtree
Foundation, and Razzle Dazzle. Proposals still in the works are: Resist, Houston AIDS Allliance,
Burroughs/Wellcome, Chicago Resource Center, DIFFA Dallas, DIFFA Houston, Meadows Foundation
and a second AmFAR grant. Any other suggestions, ideas and HELP are welcome. Julie Oliver also
suggested that we write a very nice letter to IOLTA asking for the $6,000 we had to give back to them to
aid us in this "transition" period. I haven't heard anything from the Playboy Foundation about the grant
that Suzy wrote.
I have yet to hear from many of you (and you know who you are) concerning the fundraising letter I
talked about in my last two memos. I've even had Lenesse make reminder phone calls to everyone. I
know that you all are very busy with actual lives and stuff, but since we are in "crisis mode," I would
deeply appreciate your responses ASAP.
Rodd Grey (Patti La Plae Safe) from Dallas contacted me a couple of weeks ago about a fundraiser for us
on Wednesday, June 17th at the Roundup Bar on Cedar Springs. (S)He, along with Mr. All-American,
John Gordon, and National Lady of the Year, B.J., are organizing and hosting the event. I told him that
Suzy and I would both be there, and he told me he would contact the Dallas Trustees about it. If he
hasn't contacted you, call me and I'll call him for more details.
Also noted in Donald's memo, the Board meeting will be at the Austin Public Library. They are open on
Saturdays from 9-5:30, are a few blocks from the THRF office, the room holds twenty people, and is
FREE to non-profits. Such a deal!
OK, on to the most important item, my vacation. I know this is probably not the best time to bring this
up, but then again, no time like the present. Since I began working for THRF in February, 1991, I have
not taken any vacation and have, thus, accrued fourteen (14) vacation days. I would very much like to
"spend" this time during this summer. From July 18-26, I will be in California to attend my sister's
wedding. This will use five (5) vacation days. This also means that I will be unable to attend the July
25th Board meeting. Sorry, but the wedding's been planned since last October. From August 8-19, I
will be in Michigan. This will use eight (8) vacation days. I hope these times are acceptable to everyone
concerned. I had already discussed these dates with the staff some time ago, but with all that's happened,
thought I should report directly to the Board.
I guess this is my last "official" memo as Acting Executive Director. I want you all to know, the power
did not go to my head, but the stress did (ha ha).
