Mrs. Lula Pettit of Kyle arrived
this week »for an extended visit with
Miss Ida Sweeten.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cooper and son
and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Howerton of
San Antonio spent the week-end with
friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Beck of San An-
gelo visited in the homes of Mr. and
Mrs. E. M. Powers and Mrs. Josie
Guthrie Wednesday and Thursday.
Some of the ranchmen in this sec-
tion have started mohair shearing.
Growers state they are anxious to get
the cheap mohair off the goats back
and start raising some high price hair
for fall.
Friends are sorry to hear of the
death of James Bruce, son of Enoch
Bruce who passed away at the veter-
ans hospital at McCamey. He was
buried in the Rochelle Cemetery Sun-
day February 4th.
Mrs. Adelle Lewis and children of
Corpus Christi arrived this week for
a two weeks visit with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rowden.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dorn and
some friends from Austin visited in
Barksdale Sunday afternoon.
Miss Jane Jernigan of San Antonio
spent the week-end with her grand-
mother, Mrs. Bessie Jernigan.
Guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John iShehon over the week-end were
Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Simlinger^ and
daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie
Morris and daughter of San Antonio.
Farmers and ranchmen in the Nue-
ces Canyon are still in bad need of
some moisture. The moisture from the
recent snow and sleet helped some
but not enough to do much good.
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Strackbein
sold another one of their fine Hereford
bulls to Mr. Harry L. Harper of
Menard.
The Lanman family has purchased
the home of the late Mrs. J. W. Eads
in Camp Wood and moved there this
week. They have leased their ranch to
Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Ward. +
Raymond Cogburn spent the week-
end with his wife in San Antonio.
The home of Rev. and Mrs. Dun-
lap is nearing completion. They plan
to move into it this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Jes Allison of Robs-
town are visiting in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. M. F. Thompson.
Mrs. Lucille Thompson and son
Don attended the funeral of Jim Dav-
enport in Sabinal Sunday.
People of this community have
been busy the past week fighting
grass fires. These fires occurred on
F. W .(Bud) Pope ranch, Joe Craig
ranch, and the C. C. Stewart ranch
These ranchmen wish to thank all the
people who helped fight the fires.

Women of the Presbyterian Church
was held in the home of Mrs. Bill Tay-

A review of the work of the church
on the Program of Progress and a
Challenge to the Church Women for
the 5th year of the program was giv-
