La Forge, Preident of the Board af
Trustees, who presented the di-

GOSPEL OF CHRIST
“IF CHRIST HATH NOT BEEN RAISED’
■
In denying the bodily Resurrec-
tion,” or “ressurrection of the cause
of Jesus," modern '‘rationalism” is
confronted with difficult problems.
Let us face the facts squarely: the
Bible affirms the physical Resurrec-
tion of Jesus Christ; is the claim true
or is it false? This is the issue. The
question, "What difference does it
make, so long as the morality of Je-
sus is taught?" is clearly answered
by Paul in I Cor. 15:12-19 He sets
forth five fundamentals of Chris-
tianity which rests upon the Res-
urrection for their validity. Consider
them carefully. “If Christ hath not
been raised—
1. “Then is our preaching vain.”
“Why?” someone asks. Because the
Resurrection of Jesus is the heart of
the gospel (I Cor, 15:1-4); “He was
delivered up for our trespasses, and
was • raised for our justification"
(Romans 4:25). The Resurrection is
the proof Jesus' Lordship, “who was
declared to be the Sion of God with
power ... by the resurrection from
the dead; even Jesus Christ our
Lord" (Rom. 1:4). If there is no Res-
urrection, the message is robbed of
its life; it is a dead message. A dead
Christ could never provide a living
message.
2. “Yea, and we are found false
witnesses of God; because we wit-
nessed of God that he raised up
Christ.” From the first sermon
preached by the Apostles, they de-
can they be believed on on any point
dared the Resurrection. If they can
not be believed on this point, how
can t hey be believed on any point?
If they, could deceive or be deceived
here, their tstimony is worthless on
any issue that could arise, if, how-
ever. they are to be believed on this
point, they must be believed on
every point. On the Resurrection of
Christ the whole of divine authority
rests.
3. “Your faith is vain." The faith
of a Christian is faith in the Christ
whom God raised, not merely in a
“good man." He whose faith is not in
a risen Christ cannot claim to be a
Christian. He may be a moral man.
.but he is NOT a CHRISTIAN.
I Christ's claims, promises, and ap-
| peals to the human family were a
hollow mockery if “death ends all.”
I Faith rests upon testimony, testi-
mony is true or false according to
' its faithfulness in facts. If the fact
never occurred, the testimony is
false; if the testimony is false, “your
' faith is vain."
4. “Ye are yet in your sins.”
True, the blood was shed for the re-
mission of sins (Matt. 26:28), but in
the Resurrection God confirmed the
claim that He was “the lamb of God,
that taketh away the sin of the
world."
5. You are without hope. "Then
they also that are fallen asleep in
Christ have perished." Without the
Resurrection, there is no hope; the
future is dark, life is a bewildering
maze of uncertainty, with only the
dark abyss of death and despair be-
jfore all. The heart-broken soul who
followed the body of a loved one to
! its final resting place, and turned
! away cheered by the hope of a Res-
urrection, is mocked, cruelly
.mocked, by the colossal blunder of
'the ages, a word that claimed to
Jcome from God, but deceived.
