New Discovery
For Hay Fever
AUSTIN, Tex. — University o'
Texas biologists have found a nev
way to bring relief to hay fever ant
asthma sufferers.
Molds — minute organisms flying
around in the air, particularly in com
mon house dust—have been found t<
be a cause of hay fever, asthma ant
other respiratory, allergies almost tc
the degree of pollen, arch enemy oi
the hay fever victim.
Dr. Marie B. Morrow and E. P
Lowe of the University, and Dr
Homer Prince of Houston, former
staff member of the University School
of Medicine at Galveston, have the co-
operation of 21 allergy specialists in
ten states in the use of the mold ex-
tracts they make for therapeutic treat-
ment.
Each cooperating physician collects
specimens of molds in his locality and
forwards them to the University lab-
oratory.
Isolating each variety, Miss Morrow
and Lowe grow the specimens in cul-
ture, identify them, produce large
quantities, and dry and store them.
They send some of the stock to Dr.
Prince in Houston, who prepares ex-
tracts and send them to the cooperat-
ing physician. He in turn uses them
for both skin tests and therapeutic
treatment.
