KERRVILLE, Tex.—The body of
Jake Gold, World War veteran, was
found hanging by a belt from the bars
of a cell in the Kerr county jail Sun-
day afternoon. Following an inquest,
Justice of the Peace Ed Smith of Ing-
ram, returned a verdict of suicide.
Sheriff Moore said Gold was plac-
ed in jail Friday on a charge of drunk-
cness. The man was said to have left
the Veteran’s Hospital at Legion re-
cently without having been officially
discharged.

Benett Champ Clark was elected Tues-
day to a second term in Congress and
the only question that remained was
whether his Missouri constituents had
piled up a vote large enough to ele-

Menard county stayed wet Tues-
day, when a local option election car-
ried by about 2 to 1.
Approximately 1,200 votes out of a
possible 1,300 had been counted. Citi-
zens first voted to bring beer to the
county several years ago.

O. L. McNealy is now at home on
his ranch between Rocksprings and
Bracketville, after being released from
the Nix Hospital in San Antonio. Mr.
McNealy says that he is feeling bet-
ter now than for quite a while.
Mrs. J. I. Henry, accompanined by
her daughter, Miss LaVerne,, spent
last Thursday, visiting with her fa-
ther, B. D. Sherrill at Christoval.
