MRS. JOHN G. GOLIGHTLY
Mrs. John G. Golightly, presi-
dent of the Clairette Home Demon-
stration Club, has recently been
appointed to serve as a member
of the 4-H Club Committee of the
Official Texas Home Demonstra-
tion Association Board.
Mrs. Golightly was a charter
member in home demonstration
work when it began under he pres-
ent program in Erath county back
in 1935. Since that time, she has
been a constant worker and her
efforts have had a great deal to
do with bringing Home Demon-
stration work to the status it has
today in the county. Mrs. Golight-
ly served as Council Chairman
during the first part of the war
when it was difficult to hold to-
gether any organization. She has
missed only three monthly Council
meetings since she has been in the
work, now eleven years. Also Mrs.
Golightly has been chairman of
each standing committee in the
Council and was responsible for
the first cooperative order of pine-
apple to be made in the county.
Back before the war, Mrs. Go-
lightly was county and local chair-
man of the Mattress Making Pro-
gram and later served as a mem-
ber of the County Land Use Plan-
ning Committee. Mrs. Golightly
has taken an active part in dis-
trict and state wide Texas Home
Demonstration Association Pro-
grams which included attending
six district meetings and four
state meetings. She acted as Erath
county sponsor for the 4-H Round-
Up held at A. ft M. College last
summer.
Thrdugh her work with the
Home Demonstration Agent and
as a clubmember, Mrs. Golightly
won first place in the county on
Living Room Improvements and
Home Food Supply, winning first
place in the district on a candle-
work bedspread exhibited at a
show in San Angelo. She stan-
dardised poultry and eggs so eggs
may be sold in sealed cartons with
4-H stickers and dressed poultry
may be sold under 4-H labels.
Besides Mrs. Golightly’s work
as a club woman, mother, and
homemaker, she is active in her
community by serving as chairman
of the committee to landscape the
Hico Hospital and Clinic, ^ss chair-
man of the Red Cross' dt;ive in
Clairette, as president of the W,
M. S. C. S. and has taught an
adult Sunday School class in Clair-
ette for the past ten years.
At the request of Miss Helen
Swift, specialist in rural wo-
men’s Organizations for the Texas
Extension Service, Mrs. Golightly
is writing an article on "What
Home Demonstration Work has
Meant to Me and My Family" for
the May issue of
