Letter fro Meridian
To the Ejiaminer
Mekidian February 10 In your
issue of Tuesday you had a
paragraph stating in snbtance
that prohibition in Bosqne county
was a God send to liquor dealers in ad-
joining counties that jurors litigants
and witnesses in attendanco on the dis-
trict and inferior courts all of which
were coming in Sunday
were in session
day and that seventenths of them wore
armed with bometbing to console the
inner man Factsno courts were iu
session but the district court a justices
court held a short session Monday
came to town until
Few if any jurors
Mondav Some witnesses from distant
countie s may hare been m town on
Sunday but not many I have smclled
whisky on the breath o
but one man since prohibition went inr
effect and ho was an old toper that ha
lain in a supply for private uso 1 linv
court wn
seen many men here during
when the saloons wero here nevor failo
to get tipsy go home sober bm
writing the above I see other remaro
tratio to u
about prohibition causing
elswhere and causing dull times in yocer
issue of Wednesday There is no dtik
ness which is not attributed to othgr
causes oxcept in localities where saloons
were where wo have quiet and golin
order instead of midnight carousaels
and drunken orgies I think sucuu
paragraphs except when theoy
consist of facts are up
calculated to increase the popularity in
Bosque county of the paper that pub-
lishes them
The people of Bosque couuty aro wol
satisfied with the workings of probibi
tion so far and I think it safo to say
that prohibition is stronger today than
it ever was Ever saloon keeper in tho
county has removed his saloon to some
other county or has changed the char-
acter of his business M
The writer may be desirous of getting
up a discussion ou prohibition m
Bosciuo couuty aud if so we aro not the
proper ones to begin with It is a ques-
tion for tho papers and people of that
couuty to settle and being now settled
no lengthy discussion is necessary No
person or paper outsido the county has
a right to undertake to bring up a local
issue The information we got that
courts would all be iu session on the da >
referred to and that parties wore com-
ing in with stimulants in their
pockets was got from a Bosque
county gentleman who if not
a prohibitionist is an abstaiuor In say-
ing that trade was dull at Meridian or
going to other places we did not say on
account of prohibition alone nor did wo
say at Meridian alone We stated at
Meridian and Morgan on account of
bad weather tho cotton beiug nearly nil
marketed prohibition etc This was
tho substance of the paragraphs pub-
lished Wo got the information as wo
state from a Bosque county man w ho
would not misstate if he knew it but
who might have been in error to some
extent Our province is to give legiti-
mate news without partiality and our
friend must not think us meddling or
being on either sido because we gavo a
scrap of news that did not favor what
seems to be bis side
