New Cold Front
Heads for State
Freezing temperatures were fore-
cast for northern parts of Texas
Saturday night as a new cold front
settled over the state.
Lows of around 20 degrees were
forecast in the Panhandle. The
weather bureau said the minimums
in northern points in East and Cen-
tral Texas would be in the middle
20s, ranging higher elsewhere.
Temperatures will remain about
steady through Sunday with a
gradual Warmup to start Monday,
the weather bureau said.
Small craft warnings were islued
Saturday along the coast from Gal-
veston eastward: Increasing north-
west winds are expected to shift
to fresh to strong 25 to 35-mile-per-
hour velocities Saturday night and
Sunday.
Overnight minimum temper-
atures in Texas Friday night
raneed from 18 degrees in Dalhart
to 55 degrees in Brownsville. ,
Water District Meet
Slated in February
A meeting for the purpose of
defining an underground water dis-
trict and for possible formation of
a new district will be held in Semi-
nole sometime in February, Churtty
Agent Bill Taylor said Saturday.
Taylor said he had been con-
tacted about the meeting by Anton
Freeman of Seminole, chairman
of the steering committee, con-
cerning the meeting.
It was previously scheduled to
be held on Jan.. 12.
Eight South Plains counties, in-
cluding Hockley County would be
affected by the district. They are
Gaines, Yoakum, Dawson, Borden,
Lynn, Terry, Cochran and Hock-
ley.
Taylor said that only a small
portion of Hockley County, most of
it Mallett land, would be a part
of the proposed district.
The rest of Hocklfey County is
already a part of the High Plains
Underground Water District No. 1.
Kitchen Kapers
Never allow turkey, broth, stuff-
ing or gravy to remain at room
temperature after a meal is serv-
ed. Before refrigerating the tur-
key, remove all stuffing from the
carcass and put it in a covered
bowl. Wrap the turkey separately.
Put broth and gravy in separate
^containers.
Nowadays wholewheat flour and
graham flour are synonymous
terins. This flour is not sifted be-
fore measuring.

ARTISTIC SWINDLE *
AMARILLO, Tex. (fl — The hot
check artist Deputy Sheriff J. W. |
Caplan is looking for is really an
artist.
An Amarillo grocery cashed
what looked like a check which1
had been stamped with a check
protector machine.
A closer and too-late look showed
the red and black printing of the
.firm’s name, and the stamped a-
mount of the check, were drawn
in by an artistic hand. The artist
also painstakingly produced, with
a pin, the minute holes with which
a check protector machine pierces
a check.
