Burnet County Club Lambs Sold
Fort Worth.—Another of the fine
commercial feeding programs that
are gaining such wide popularity
in the programs for 4-H and FFA
youths was climaxed when about
500 lambs and 50 people from Bur-
net County converged on the sheep
barns at Fort Worth.
The Burnet County program is
recognized as one of the best in
tile State, and the lambs sold at
good prices. Some in feeder flesh
I sold for $18, and others with more
fat sold at S19 and $19.50.
Some fancy fall wooled lambs
topped at $22, and some choice
milk fat lambs topped at $22, also.
Slaughter lambs averaged 50 cents
lower at Fort Worth Monday,
while feeders and older sheep were
steady. Feeders sold at $20 down.

latives in Rocksprings that he is

Scab Under Control, Dipping

Livestock Sanitary Commission
offices in Fort Worth reported all
sheep involved in the current out-
break of..scab in Kinney, Maverick
and Uvalde Counties arc believed
to have had their first dipping
and the matter is under control,
according to J. D. Jones of this
office. •
It had been feared that if the
matter became serious a resump-
tion of dipping at all markets and
community sales might be neces-
sary. However, Jones in talking
with thi\ writer Monday expressed

Texas Calf Crop Was New Record
The US DA figures just released
on Texas' calf crop in 1954 indi-
cate a total of 4,259,000, about
one percent above the 1953 total
of 4,211,000. It was the biggest
calf crop on record, according to
the department.
Expressed percentage-wise as
the numbers of cows and heifers
two-years old or older, it meant
that the crop was 87 percent. This
unusually high percentage came
about despite drouth. Calf crop
was 85 percent in 1953. and average
for the past 10 years was 80 per-
cent.
In the United States 42,210,000
calves, or 3 percent more, were
raised in 1954. The 1953 total was
40,947,000. It was also an all-time
record.
Fed Cattle Lower At Fort Worth
Fed cattle were 50 cents and
some bids SI lower at Fort W orth
Monday. Heavy supplies at Nor-
thern markets, plus the fact recent
prices grade for grade at Fort
Worth have been above tile Corn
Belt averages, was credited with
weakening of the prices.
Choice steers topped at $24.
Cows were steady, and hulls un-
changed. Calves were 50c to $1.00
lower, heavyweights to $21 and
$21.50, and mostly $20.50 down.
Stocker calves sold from $22 down.
Hogs Top at $17 In Monday Trade
Butcher hogs opened at a top of
$17 at Fort Worth Monday. This
was steady to 25 cents lower than
last week's close. Buyers again
were emphasizing the meat-type
hogs and paying the better prices
for those kinds. Sows were steady
at $15.50 down.
THE POWER OF SALVATION
By Vernon L. Simpson
“For I am not ashamed of the
gospel of Christ: for it is the power
of God unto salvation to every
one that believeth. to the Jews
first, and also to the Greek.” (Rom.
1:16).
The above words are among the
most beautiful in all the Bible, and
how thankful each of us should be
that the gospel of Christ has been
given to the world, so that we
may take advantage of the only
“power" which is able to save the
soul'.
God has many powers. Water is
God's power to quench thirst. Food
is God’s power to satisfy hunger.
God has powers which are able
to control the weather. He has
powers which make it possible for
a seed to grow and produce after
its kind. God has the power to

control the universe, to prescribe
the paths of all the stars and ptdkr
ets of the heavens. All of these
powers belong to God, and yet
God has only one power which is
able to give us salvation—that is
the gospel of Christ.
Although water is God's power
to quench thirst, if it is polluted,
with a measure of poison, its na-
ture is changed and it becomes a
power of destruction. The same
thing can be said of food, God's
power to satisfy hunger. In con-
nection with God's powers, there
are laws which must be recogniz-
ed and obeyed. God has a law of
gravity, and as long as we com-
ply with the law, we suffer no
harm from a fall, but when we vio-
late that law we must suffer the
consequences.
So it is with the gospel of Christ,
it can be preverted. It can be al-
tered, but when such changes are
made there are consequences. In
its purity it is the power of God
unto salvation, but a perverted gos-
pel is a means of destruction. Thus
Raul pronounces a "curse" upon
anyone who would "preach any
other gospel.” (See Gal. 1:6-10).
Friends, it should behoove every
lover of truth to examine himself
in the light of the gospel. Let us
make sure we have followed the
instructions of inspiration rather
than human doctrines.
