As in many other cities in the
United States and throughout the
world, the University of Texas has
a strong ex-students group in
Washington. There are about 500
members here. Thus the Texas
traditions are preserved by the
folks who have to be away from
home on our holidays. Your sena-

Cotton Allotments
The bill to provide extra cotton
acreage for hardship cases, which
we mentioned last week, has passed
the House of Representatives. This
gives hope that final action may
he had in time to help during the
present planting season. Senator
Johnson and 1 are continuing to
pre-s front prompt action by the
Senate Committee and it is work-
ing on the -uliject now. It is be-
lieved that same type of relief will
he enacted to help those whose
cuts have been so drastic. In the
meantime, every farmer who will
not use his allotment should turn
it in to the county committee both
to protect himself for future years
and to help someone who needs it
this year.

OCIAL SECURITY
Many additional household work-
ers are now covered by social se-
curity as a result of one of the re-
cent changes in the law, according
to John D. Palmer, District Mana-
ger of the San Antonio, Social
Security Office. •
As of the first of this year it is
no longer necessary that a house-
hold employee work for the same
employer on 24 days in a 3 month
period. Now, all that is necessary
for such workers to be covered by
the law is that they be paid at least
$50 in cash wages by the same
employer in the 3 month period, or
calendar quarter. The periods end
on March 31, June 30, September
30, and December 31. As little as
$3.85 in weekly cash wages can
now qualify a person for protection
under the law.
All domestic workers who meet
this simple cash pay requirement
should be sure to have a social se-
