ANNUAL RODEO
ATCtEBURNr~
SEPTEMBER 3-6
The Annual Rodeo sponsored by
the North Central Texas Fair and
Rodeo Association, Inc., will open
in Cleburne on Wednesday, Sept.
3, followed by shows on Thurs-
day, Friday and -Saturday nights.
Grand entry time is 8 p.m.
Ralph Collier of Austin, Rodeo
producer promises one of the fast-
est, roughest rodeos ever held in
Cleburne, featured by saddle bronc
riding, bare back riding, Brahman
bull riding, calf roping, bull dog-
ging and girls barrel rues.
Among the string of outlaw
horses found in-the Ralph Collier
Rodeo is the famous outlaw "Pikes
Peak.’’ Like his namesake, the
mountain, Pikes Peak comes out
high, steep and slick. You will
want to see this cowboy crippler
at the Cleburne Rodeo.
Warren Antlcy, rodeo clown and
bfill fighter, will furnish plenty of
action each night as he moves in
clou to draw a murder - minded
Brahma away from the fallen bull
rider. The life-saving side of their
work in the area is the true meas-
ure of tho clown’s worth, far out-
weighing his ability to tickle the
funny bone of the spectators.
A veteran at the job, Bud Town-
send, will serve as announcer for
the Cleburne rodeo. Towpsend
started announcing when he was
16 years of age. Townsend, who
resides at Henrietta, went to a
small rodeo at Ringgold, and when
the announcer failed to show up,
he took over the job and has beeii
at it ever since.
Duane Stephens and his horu,
Smokey, and Potis Sims of Gaines-
ville with his ponies ana dogs will
furnish plenty of entertainment.

Williams has been pastor of the
*Mrst Methodist Church In May
For five years, while in Dallas
he gave the international Sundav
School lesson program over Sta-
tion ‘TCRLD there.
Williams says the Desdemona
school will reouire a great deal
of administrative alertness to pre-
vent losing the high school unit
because of a low average daily
attendance and financial difficul-
ty.
Williams said he hoped trustees
could get evaluation on property
raised to the level where the
schools can operate successfully.
Another goal is to lure more fami-
lies with school age children into
the district. Low house rent will
be one inducement to attract
families, he said.
Desdemona’s school system
serves the large agricultural area
in southeastern Eastland County.
