Sunday.
Misses Eunice and Nola Lee re-
turned home Friday after spending
a week in Fort Worth with Mr.
and Mrs. Glenn Lee. Glen is ill in
the Hands Hospital. Last report
he was some better.
Mrs. Imo Hughie of Reno, Nev.,
came in the past week to visit her
mother, Mrs. Ollie Duncan, who
is ill in Hico and she is also vis-
iting her daughter, Mrs. Charles
Golightly and family on Route 7,
Hico, and Mr. and Mrs. Buster
Duncan of Hico, W. E. Duncan and
son of Foit Worth also visited dur-
ing the week with his mother, Mrs.
Ollie Duncan, and in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Buster Duncan and
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mayfield.
They also visited with Mr. and
Mr*. Charlie Golightly near Clair-
ette.
Mrs. Flora Roberson is1 taking
treatment daily in Fort Worth.
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Sloan of De

Funeral Services
Held Monday
Funeral services were held in
the Morgan Mill Methodist Church
at 8:00 p.m. Monday for William
Alexander Wood, a native of
Georgia, who died in a Gorman
hospital, at 11:56 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Wood was born in Georgia.
January 17, 1871. and cam to
Texas with his parents when he
was five years of age. He lived
the remainder of his life in and
around Stephenvilie. He had been
e member of the Methodist Church
since he was 14 yean of age.
Survivors are two daughters.
Mn. Cecil Roberts of Gorman and
Mn. Hilton Perdue of Clyde; three
sons, Guy and Ceborn Wood of
Stephenvilie and Bernice Wood of
Rotan; three brothers, J. M. Wood
and R. R. Wood of Morgan Mill
and S. L. Wood of Weatherford;
one sister, Mrs. Johnny Henderson
of Stephenvilie; 18 grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; only one
great-great-grandchild.
Burial was made in the Morgan
Mill cemetery. Rev. Erwin Holt and
Rev. Howard Johnson conducted
the last rites services.
Pallbearers were Robert Lee
Wood, Leonard Wood, Walter
Smith, Glen Williams, Clovis Gaith-
er and Edward Emmett.

prayer led by Mrs. T. O. White.

Club Meets
The Evergreen Home Demon-
stration Club met at the home of
Mr*. N. S. Johnston on the Glen
Rose Road, recently.
Mrs. R. C. Made ley, president,
opened the meeting. Mrs. Johnston
offered the prayer.
Mrs. Adams read the club pledge
followed by group singing. Mrs.
Nona Wright played the piano ac-
companiment.
Minutes were read and a abort
business meeting was held.
Roll call was answered with “my
favorite flower for arrangement#”
The guest speaker, Mrs. Wright
was introduced by Mrs. Made ley.

tina.
Roy Baker was bom Dec. 29,
1884 in Nashville, Mo. He was
married to Rosa Etta Fine on
April 17, 1910, and they have made
their home in Erath county for the
past 17 yfcars. Prior to that time
they lived in California and Okla-
homa.
Survivors are his widow, four
daughters, Mr*. Ethel Dias of
TtMLLeandor, Cattf.; Mrs. Bertha
Henslee of San Leandor, Calif.;
Mrs. Los Hrannon of Stephenvilie,
aad Mrs. Pearl Brazier of Argen-
tina; two son*, John Baker of
Argentina, and Ralph Baker of
Stephenvilie; four sisters, Mrs.
Eva Robinett and Mrs. M*e Hold-
en of Compton, Calif.; Mrs. R. A.
Mann of Wheeler, Tex., and MA.
Pearl Glaxier of Pittsburg, Kan.;

for it. Mother, the dearest, truest,
fondest name. All the world gave
her that fame. The one who gave
os birth and from her life we took
cur worth.
Of course, I have ip mind the
right kind of mothers and grand-
mothers and not the sort of mother
I read about in Fort Worth, who
abandoned her little children and
left them in a locked-ap room with
some wharf rats large as opos-
sums, while she went off on a
honky tanking spree. No wonder
the kind-hearted judge teak her
little children away from her aad
put them in an orphan* bom*.

there was only one person who
encouraged him in Ms childhood—
his mother. His teacher told him
he was addled and wasting Ms
time in school. His mother took
him out of school and taught him
herself. Writing years afterward
of his mother, he said she was the
best counsellor a boy ever had and
he determined early in life to be
worthy of his mother’s confidence.
