NEARING COMPLETION.... Pictured is the Upper Leon River Municipal Water District
"Raw Water Intake Project" work area that is nearing completion. Located immediately down-
stream of the Proctor Lake Dam, the approximate $1.4 million project effectively closes the
open-channel segment of the Water District's intake facility. Prior to these improvements, water
was released from the Lake daily by the Corps of Engineers for capture by the Water District's
intake pumps. As a result there was a significant annual loss of water that flowed past the intake
structure that was not captured but charged against the Water District's available water con-
tracted from Brazos River Authority. Management at the District stated that in addition to im-
proved water quality for the treatment plant there would be an annual amount of water saved
that could easily equate to an entire months' usage during peak season for the District's member
cities and other customers. The Cities of Comanche, DeLeon, Dublin, Gorman. Hamilton and
over 750 rural residents receive water that passes thru the intake structure shown.
