word from every page, but
items of interest and names of
many citizens, births, deaths,
marriages, court cases,
personal news, and lots of
/other information has been
transcribed. I have mentioned
this beforehand I ask anyone
with a computer sitting idle, to
look up this site. You will be
surprised at all of the names of
early day Comanche citizens.
The editor of The Comanche
Chief Joe W. Hill, is about
1881 and 1882, was asking
early citizens for articles about
their lives. Several people sent
letters to the editor to be
published, and it is a miracle
that their words have been
saved. One that I have found is
Henry Martin, Sr., in the paper
of September 23, 1882.
Another is William Stinnett in
the paper dated September 9,
1882.
The one of most interest to
me so far is by Mrs. Elizabeth
Pennery in the paper dated
September 16, 1882. She is
telling about her life, being
born April I, 1797 in
Pendleton District, South
Carolina. She married John
Pennery in Rabun County,
Georgia in 1815. He was a
blacksmith by trade. They
arrived by steamboat at
Jefferson, Texas on the 4,h of
March, 1852. In 1856 they
accompanied by an adult.
