County Rainfall is now
2nd Highest in History
General showers last weekend pushed Comanche
County’s yearly rainfall total to 48.84 inches. This total re-
corded by the Corp of Engineers, far surpasses the 2006 an-
nual rainfall of 23.17 inches. The 38 year average year-to-
date is approximately 31.12 inches. Currently, Comanche
County is 19.45 inches above the average normal rainfall for
the year. Last year the County received only 23.17 inches,
making it the 6th driest in the past 76 years. The highest re-
corded annual rainfall was reported in 1986, with 50.81 inches.
Rainfall ranged from a high of 2.20 inches in Amity, to
only 0.50 of an inch at Mercer Gap. The City of Comanche
saw about 2.00 inches of rain.
The Corp of Engineers at Lake Proctor reported 1.90
inches of rainfall, bringing the lake level to 1161.89.

Cora’s Christmas festivities
scheduled for December 7-9

I'he 2007 Cora's Christmas
Festivities will be held on De-
cember 7, 8 and 9 in beautiful
Comanche.
December 7
December 7 is "Light Up
Comanche!" This is the night
residents and businesses will
be judged for the lighting con-
test. To nominate your home or
business, please call the Cham-
ber of Commerce at 325-356-
3233. Judges will be out Fri-
day, December 7 from 6:00-
9:00 p.m. choosing the best
lighting in Comanche. You
must be entered in the contest
to be judged.
December 8
The highlight of Cora's
Christmas will be in Comanche
Historic Downtown on Satur-
day evening. These activities
will include the Classic Car
Carolers from the Comanche
Car Club at 4:30 p.m., pictures
with Santa at Old Cora from
4:30-7:30 p.m., a Holiday
Wonderland by the Newburg 4-
H, and the "Lights of Christ-
mas Parade at 6:00 p.m. Lineup
begins at 5:30 p.m. on West
Comanche hosting Friday’s
Gustine - Zephyr playoff
Comanche Indian Stadium
will be the host site for the
Division II Region IV finals
contest between Gustine
Tigers and the Zephyr
Bulldogs this Friday night.
Kickoff time is 7:00 p.m. and
ticket prices are $6.00 and
$4.00.
The contest should be a
good one with both teams
ranked in the six-man Division
II state top-ten, according to
sixmanfootball.com. Gustine is
ranked number six with a
power rating of 196.58.
Zephyr isjust two spots behind
at number eight with a rating
of 193.29.
Gustine enters the contest
with a 9-3 season record.
They average scoring 56.67
per game with 680 points
through 12 games. The Tigers
have allowed 495 points for a
41.25 average.
The Tigers have averaged
72 points per game in their two
playoffs, defeating Star 74-28
and Lohn 70-64.
The Gustine offense is led
by senior Evany Cervantes. In
the past three games
Cervantes has rushed for 579
yards and passed for 615,
scoring 11 touchdowns.
Zephyr enters the contest
with a 8-3 season mark. The
Bulldogs have won seven
straight games after dropping
three of their first four
contests. Last week they
rolled over Iredell 90-56.
Three weeks ago, Gustine
downed Iredell 75-28 to win a
district championship.
The Bulldogs are led by
Jason Hughes who has rushed
for 1,366 yards and passed for
1,208. Chris Newton has 355
yards rushing and 983 yards
passing.
Luke Reed is Zephyr's
leading receiver with 1,229
yards. Cord Biddy has 1,191
yards of total offense.
The Bulldog defense is led
by Biddy with 155 tackles.
Hughes has 105 tackles and
leads the team in interceptions
with 11. Chase Jackson had 90
tackles.
Dustin Bingham
gets a call from
President Bush
On Thanksgiving morning,
Thursday, November 22,2007,
President George W. Bush
made telephone calls to
exemplary members of the
Armed Forces who are
stationed in remote locations
worldwide to wish them a
Happy Thanksgiving and to
thank them for their service to
our Nation.
One of those he called was
Comanche's Operational
Specialist Second Class (OS2)
Dustin Bingham. U.S. Coast
Guard. He is deployed to the
Eastern Pacific on the
USCGC Morgenthau(WHEC
722), is a senior member of
the Morgenthau's CIC watch
team and iscurrently filling the
position of CIC watch
supervisor. He is instrumental
in the development of junior
OS personnel and in the
teaching and training fellow
shipmates in Law
Enforcement skills. OS2
Bingham has prosecuted eight
successful cases against
narcotics traffickers.
He is the son of Kelly and
Brian Bingharp of Mason,
Texas and the grandson of
Sue and George Bingham and
Caron and Velton Ford, all of
Comanche.
Grand. Horses are encouraged
to join the parade. Entries must
have Christmas lights in some

There is no entry fee.

three Best Overall entries.
Nothing may be thrown from
moving parade units, however,
walkers may hand out items!

Residents and visitors are
encouraged to enjoy evening
services at local churches and
again enjoy the "Light Up
Christmas" lighting and deco-
rating contest entries. Homes
and businesses are encouraged
to have all their Christmas
lights on for viewing, espe-
cially the nights of December
8 and 9, 15 and 16 and 22 and
23.
The Chamber Christmas
Member Mixer will be hosted
by Comanche National Bank,
Tuesday, December 1 l,h from
5:30-6:30 p.m. Awards for the
"Light Up Comanche" lighting
and decorating contest winners
will be given at this event, third
and fourth quarter New Cham-
ber Members will be intro-
duced and everyone is invited
to attend!

Sixth Annual Holiday Wreath
Decorating Contest announced
The Comanche FFA will be
holding the Comanche ISD
Project Show on Saturday,
December 8, 2007. This show
will give students the opportu-
nity to highlight their animal
projects for the year.
In conjunction with the
Project Show we will be host-
ing a " Little Britches" Swine
show. We are inviting your
child to participate in this por-
tion of the show. There will be
no cost to participate in the
"Little Britches" show, and the
hogs will be provided by older
exhibitors.
It is expected to start around
10:30 on Saturday. The only re-
quirement is that they be in
grades K-2. The “Little
Britches" show will be at the
Comanche Livestock Bam. We
hope that this will be a fun op-
portunity for your child to get
involved in the FFA.
The Comanche Main Street in
collaboration with event co-
sponsors the Comanche Cham-
ber of Commerce and Agricul-
ture and the Comanche Chief,
are pleased to announce the
kickoff of the 6th Annual
Holiday Wreath Decorating
Contest. All Comanche area
businesses are encouraged to
participate and decorate a
wreath (or wreaths) for display
on the exterior of their building
or place of business.
Contest wreaths may be
constructed of various materi-
als, and may be musical, ani-
mated, lighted, ornamental, or
thematic. Creativity is encour-
aged. Wreaths must in place
and on display by Wednesday,
December 5, 2007 and remain
on display throughout the
Christmas holidays.

ister their entries by Friday, De-
cember 7th forjudging consid-
eration. You may pre-register
by contacting the Comanche
Chamber of Commerce (356-

A TEXAS “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” lights up the southeast lawn of the County Courthouse as
the town gets ready for the upcomingChristmas holidays. All the lighted signs are made by Larry
Castleberry of Comanche which he provides and installs at a discount to the Chamber of
Commerce. In addition to Chamber directors, others who have assisted in decorating the square
were Eddie Parker’s students and members of the Student Chamber.
