Santa s Helpers begin 25th season
I hursday, November 29, 2007, / The Comanche Chief / Page 5A
First Methodists to celebrate
the birth of the Christ Child
By Kerry Dudley, Chair
"Give, and it will be given
to you A good measure,
pressed down, shaken to-
gether and running over, will
be poured into your lap. For
with the measure you use, it
will be measured to you. "
Luke 6:38 (NIV)
Most of us gave thanks last
week for family, food, and our
many blessings during Thanks-
giving. At Santa's Helpers, we
are thankful for 25 years of
serving less fortunate families
in Comanche County. As chair
of the organization, I've been
involved for 24 of those years,
watching the community re-
spond to the needs of senior
citizens and low income fami-
lies. These family units all want
the same things others do for
Christmas but are barely able
to meet their own basic needs
of food, shelter, utilities, and
clothing. Seniors are on lim-
ited incomes, single parent
families may be in low income,
government housing, others
find themselves laid off during
the holiday season. Some
grandparents find themselves
raising grandchildren and
struggle to meet financial com-
mitments on restricted incomes.
There are other families
where parents don't make the
wisest financial or personal
decisions, leaving limited or no
money for gifts for the children.
While we try and counsel indi-
viduals on how to change
lifestyles, make better deci-
sions, and guide to helpful agen-
cies, we do not operate as judge
and jury on personal decisions
for adults. Santa's Helpers ex-
ists to brighten Christmas for
children under the age of 12 and
for senior citizens struggling to
make ends meet during the holi-
days. Applications for assis-
tance will appear in the
Comanche Chief weekly until
December 12lh. Deadline for
application for assistance is
December 15th. Only emer-
gency applications from
