Texas Tech coach Chris Beard said. “I
know we re going to be a frog again at
some point — it’s the Big 12 — But I
want to be a prince one more day.”
TCU reached No. 10 in the AP Top
25 after winning its first 12 games. Now7
that the conference season has started
and the losses are piling up, the 16th-
ranked Homed Frogs could find them-
selves out of the poll.
TCU (13-4,1-4) lost to Texas by one
in double overtime on Wednesday and
by five to No. 9 Oklahoma in overtime
on Saturday. The Homed Frogs’ lone
Big 12 victory was over Baylor and its
four losses have come by a combined 11
points.

The Big 12 can stake a claim as the
nation’s best conference. It has the top
RPI rating, five teams ranked in the AP
Top 25 and eight teams in the top 50 of
the KenPom.com rankings.
The only problem: The teams have
been beating up on each other since
conference play started.
Big 12 teams have bounced around
the poll since the first conference games
w7ere played just after Christmas and
Monday’s AP Top 25 should be no dif-
ferent after more teams went down this
wreek.

games by edging Baylor 57-54 on Tues-
day. The Mountaineers likely will drop
in Monday’s poll after losing 72-71 to
No. 8 Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders (15-2, 4-1) erased
an 11-point second-half lead to win their
first top-10 match-up at home, sending
their fans rushing the court w7hen it w7as

DALLAS (AP) — When Alexander
Kerfoot looks at the Central Division
standings, he’ll still see his Colorado Av-
alanche at the bottom.
Stars
Colorado 4, Dallas 1
On Saturday night, the rookie had a
big hand in moving the Avalanche
within tw7o points of the Dallas Stars for
the second wild card in the Western
Conference.
Kerfoot scored in the first period
and assisted on Nathan MacKinnon’s
winner in the third, helping Colorado
win its sixth straight game, 4-1 over the
Dallas Stars.
“It just seems that every night the
teams in our division don’t lose,” Ker-
foot said. “If you’re following the stand-
ings day in and day out, it can get a little
frustrating.”
Both teams were playing for the first
time in a week. The Stars had won four
of their previous five games.
MacKinnon made it 2-1 with 13:27 to
play on a snap shot from the inside edge
ofthe left faceoff circle. The puck went off
goalie Ben Bishop and into die net
Blake Comeau scored with 1:40 left,
and Mark Barberio added an empty-
net, short-handed goal with 13 seconds
to play.
Colorado’s Jonathan Bernier made
27 saves for his fifth straight win while
filling in for injured goalie Semyon Var-
lamov. Bernier has allowed only six
goals in those five games.
“He’s been incredible,” Kerfoot said.
“You can just tell from watching him
how much confidence he has. He just
stepped in when [Varlamov] got hurt.”
Jamie Benn had tied it with a re-
bound goal in the second period.
Dallas had chances to score during
two pow7er plays to start the third, but
Bernier and Colorado’s penalty killers
stopped the Stars. Eleven of his saves
came during powrer plays.
“Game turned on the missed pow7er
play opportunities in the third period,”
Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock said. ‘When
you get back to back power plays like that
and you have that many quality looks,
you’re hoping that one of those goes in.”
Colorado coach Jared Bednar cred-
ited his goalie.
“[Bernier] was really good, especial-
ly in the third period w7hen we needed
him on some of those penalty kills. For
our PKto come up big and kill all four of
those off tonight was excellent.”
Colorado took a 1-0 lead 14:09 into
the first period. Kerfoot skated down
the left side to low in the faceoff circle
and lifted a snap shot over Bishop.
“It was just a good play by [A J. Greer]
to chip me the puck up,” Kerfoot said,
“and I think their D-man was a little flat-
footed, so I tried to take it to the net”
Dallas outshot the Avalanche 9-6 in
the first. On the Stars’ best chance, Ber-
nier stopped Benn’s backhand on a
breakaway.
The Stars won a challenge that disal-
lowed an apparent Colorado goal at
7:03 of the second period.

MINNEAPOLIS — There wasn’t
much left for Case Keenum to do but to
fling the ball deep and hope for a miracle.
Miracle answered.

NFL playoffs: Minnesota 29, New Orleans 24
Keenum completed a last-ditch
heave near the sideline Sunday on the
game’s final play, and Stefon Diggs
slithered away for a 61-yard touchdown
to give Minnesota a 29-24 victory over
New Orleans and send the Vikings to
the NFC championship game, with one
more win needed to become afirst-time
Super Bowl host.
Drew7 Brees had driven the Saints in
position for Wil Lutz’s go-ahead 43-
yard field goal with 25 seconds remain-
ing, punctuating a steely rally from a 17-
point deficit that stood until 1:16 was left
in the third quarter.
The Vikings wrere out of timeouts
and nearly out of options when Kee-
num dropped back with 10 seconds to
go from his 39 and threw high into a
crowd. Diggs jumped in front of Mar-
cus Williams, who rolled awkwardly
underneath Diggs during an ill-fated
attempt at a tackle.
Diggs held his ground, kept his feet
in bounds and raced untouched into
the end zone as the crowrd at U.S. Bank
Stadium erupted.

Jaguars overcome Steelers
Steelers 45-42 Sunday to advance to the
AFC title game for the third time in
franchise history and maybe, finally,
earn a bit of respect.
Leonard Foumette ran for 109 yards
and three scores. Embattled quarter-
back Blake Bortles added 214 yards
passing and a pivotal fourth-quarter
touchdown as the third-seeded Jaguars
(12-6) beat the second-seeded Steelers
(13-4) at Heinz Field for the second
time in three months.

PITTSBURGH - The Jacksonville
Jaguars heard the chatter, read the
tweets and Instagram posts. And they
got a little confused.
Why were the Pittsburgh Steelers
talking about the New England
Patriots?
Didn’t they have to face the Jaguars
first before reaching a rematch with the
Super Bowrl champions?
“I don’t know7 if they misread the
schedule or didn’t play us this week,

but they didn’t acknowledge us at all,”
Jacksonville linebacker Myles Jack
said. “And we didn’t take that too
kindly.”
Not at all. That shouldn’t be a prob-
lem going fonvard.
The Jaguars, yes the Jaguars, have
the NFL’s full attention now. A trip to
Foxborough on the horizon, too.

at the finish, Jacksonville stunned the
