Cross service for the Valley will
begin Thursday night when the Hi-
dalgo county chapter of the Ameri-
can Red Cross meets at the Ki-
wanis bi/!lding at I’ h a r r at H
o-'clock, according to announce-

organization in the mid-weetern di-

The new service will consist of
first aid to be rendered on Valley
highways and an accident preven-
tion program for th,e home and^

In addition, a roll call organiza-

citizens will be given an oppor-
tunity to join the national relief

Six hundred girls and boys dres-
sed in 30U rolls of paper will he
one of the features of the big home
town carnival to be staged by the
Parent-Teachers association Oct.
2i> to. garner funds for feeding
hungry poor children. .
These 600 girls, and boys will
take part in a pageant to be di-
rected by the physical education
department of tiie McAllen public
schools. They are pupils .in the
high, junior high, Lincoln and Wil-
son schools, all of which will have
a share in the funds for needy
children. Miss Ethel Mitchell, Mrs.
IjOrraine Shoot), Miss Kathleen
ltfcttig, and Mrs. Creola Vickers
are in'charge of thr pageant.
This great spectacle of ‘60-0
youths drissed in crepe paper cos-
tumes in vivid national colo--,
with a band playing and singing
patriotic songs will lie staged on
the high school athletic field at [
7:30 p. in. at a cost of only 10
cents for adults and 5'cents for.
children.
William Doyle, Miss Lois Honea
and Miss Dorothy Bivins will have
charge of the singing. Paul Dan-
iels and his band will furnish
music. Mrs. Paul Jones; will be at
the piano. Mrs.. Ii. L. Marston,
Mrs. Jack French and Mrs. Horace
Etchfson are the costume purchas-
ing committee, and these 600 gay
uniforms will he made by the do-
mestic science-- and domestic eco-
nomy departments under direction
of Miss Hattie Knight. The cos-
tumes will cost 3 cents each.
This mighty pageant is only one
feature of the greatest, carnival
ever to be seen in the Valley.
