During the past several summers,
the waiting area at both Cherokee
County Health Department offices
has been overflowing with parents
and children needing im-
munizations for entering or retur-
ning to school. For parents and
children this has resulted in a long,
hot, noisy wait for their turn.
In order to avoid this problem, it
will be the policy of the health depar-
tment to charge double the usual
rate for immunizations from July 15
to September 15 on those children
who come in for immunizations for
entry or re-entry into school. The
regular rates will apply to those
children who are scheduled to return
during that time period or who are
under one year of age and are just
beginning their initial series of im-
munizations.
All parents who will be enrolling
children in school for the first time in
September who are behind on their
immunizations or who have children
who are in need of a booster before
returning to school are encouraged
to bring their children in before July
15. This will avoid the double fee and
long waiting times between July 15
and Sept. 15.
The Cherokee County Health
Department will give im-
munizations this summer at the
regularly scheduled times. Im-
munizations will be given in Rusk at
the main office in the Courthouse
Annex on Wednesdays between 2
and 4:30 p.m. They will be given in-
Jacksonville at the office at 466
