National 4-H Week” in Comanche County. 4-

A luncheon opened the new year of
activities for the De Leon Garden
Club at the clubhouse at noon on
September U.
Table grace was given by Laura
Rice. After lunch, Eula Weaver,
member of the program committee,
introduced Mrs. W. L. Carruth, a
member of the Sesquicentennial
Committee, who spoke on the plans
for next year’s celebration. The club
voted to plant wildflowers and Crepe
Myrtle trees. Mrs. Cynthia Hughes,
president, presided over the
business meeting. Mrs. J. F. Blitch,
chairman, presented the yearbooks
and the year’s theme is “This Land
Is Our Land.”
Mrs. Hughes announced that one
of the members, Mrs. Jessie Moon,
has received a national award for
her poetry presented in Reno.
Nevada. Plans were made to attend
the Texas Garden Clubs 56th
convention in Waco October 2S41
and also Garden Club Day at the
State Fair October 15.
Members present were:
Mesdames: Blitch, Burleson,
Dendy, Hughes, Houghton, Moon,
Pittman, Rice, Tate, Weaver,and
Wilkerson, and guest, Mrs. W. L.
Carruth.

M LEON GARDEN CLUB'S NEW YEAR BEGINS
!■ WITH LUNCHEON
The first half of the De Leon -
McGregor football game went De
Leon’s way, with the Bearcats
leading at the half 7-6, but the
Bulldogs came back to tie the game
in the third period and then score
three times fan the final quarter to
, win by a M-7 score.
De Leon took the opening kickoff
and in two plays had a first down.
However, the Bearcats were forced
to punt, with the bad kick going for
only 10 yards. However, the
Bulldogs were unable to capitalize
and, too, were forced to punt the ball
away, backing De Leon up on its own
_ eight yard line.
In other first quarter action, the
McGregor ball handler fumbled the
snap from center and failed to get a
punt off. The Bearcats took over at
the Bulldog 43 but were unable to
gain yardage in the series following.
With 3:40 remaining in the first
half, De Leon got on the scoreboard
on a 53-yard run by Brent Hooker,
who returned to the lineup after
suffering an injury in the Comanche
game. Bill Williams kicked the extra
point for a 7-0 Bearcat lead.
McGregor threatened to score just
before half-time but was
unsuccessful on three consecutive
pass plays.
The Bulldogs came out in high
speed in the second half, taking the
kickoff and moving 47 yards
downfield to score on a 12-yard pass
with 5:46 to play in the third quarter
to tie the game at 7-7.

ANNOUNCED FOR
COLLECTION FEES AT
PROCTOR LAKE
Garvin Hendon, U. S. Army Corps
of Engineers Reservoir Manager at
I-ake Proctor, has announced that
the fee collection period for Sowell
Creek and Promontory Parks will be
from March through October,
beginning this year.
This will allow two additional
months for campers in these areas
to have the use of electrical and
water hookups and a manned gate
attendant station.
The year-round fee season in
Copperas Creek Park will remain
unchanged.
On the second play of the fourth
period, the Bulldogs went ahead on a
four-yard touchdown run and added
the extra point kick for a 14-7 game
McGregor scored on the next
series after getting the ball on a
fumbled snap by the De I^eon punter.
With 7:40 remaining in die game,
McGregor extended its lead to 21-7
on a seven-yard run and extra point
kick. With just over a minute to play,
the visiting team scored again for a
26-7 final score.
Bobby Estrada and Brent Hooker
led the Bearcat rushers with 61 and
68 yards, respectively. Bryan Boon
recovered one of the McGregor
fumbles.
