School supply list announced.....
News from H.R. Jefferies Junior High School
By Principal Jim Baum
Can you believe it? We are
a little more than one month
away from the start of a new
school year.
We have some exciting
things planned for the upcom-
ing year and look forward to
seeing you soon.
You will notice a new com-
puter lab to allow you more
access to technology in all of
your classes. Your teachers are
working together to develop
lessons that will count in more
than one subject area, and you
will have the opportunity to par-
ticipate in honors classes.
We have made some
changes in the cafeteria that
will make your lunches more
enjoyable, too.
We have several new
teachers who are excited to
join our team and serve your
needs. It’s going to be a great
year.
As you prepare for the
school year, we want to remind
you of a few of the areas you
will want to pay particular at-
tention to in regard to your at-
tire. Please remember to avoid
buying school clothes that do
not cover your midriff when
you sit and raise your arms.
Also remember that shirttails
may not cover the openings of
your pockets, so your best bet
is to buy shirts that will tuck into
your pants. You will want to
purchase pants that will stay
above your underwear and re-
member that overly baggy or
sagging pants will not be per-
mitted.
Enjoy wearing your flip-flops
for the remainder of the sum-
mer, but remember that they
are to be left at home once
school starts. (I’ve been wear-
ing mine this summer and must
admit that my feet are awe-
some looking.)
Remember to avoid detrac-
tive haircuts and clothing in any
single color, (ex. all blue, red,
or orange)
The school dress code will
be included in our Student
Handbook that you will receive
in August, but I wanted to re-
mind you of these things now
in an effort to prevent you from
wasting your parent’s money
on clothing that you cannot
wear to school.
Below, you will find a school
supply list for each of the grade
levels. I want to encourage you
to shop early to avoid the rush.
If you have any questions,
please give us a call at the Jun-
ior High. Until we meet again,
have a good summer and come
back ready to get after it

Property Tax Protest and
Appeal Procedures
The law gives property owners the right to protest actions concerning their property tax appraisals. You may follow
these appeal procedures if you have a concern about:
1 the market or special appraised value placed on your property
2 the unequal appraisal of your property
3 the inclusion of your property 00 the appraisal roll
4 any exemption that may apply to you
3 the qualifications for an agricultural appraisal
6 the taxable status of your property
7 the local governments which should be taxing your property
8 the ownership of property
9 the change of use of land receiving special appraisal
10 any action taken by the chief appraiser, appraisal district or appraisal review board that applies to and
adversely affected you
Informal Review
The 2005 appraisal notices were mailed out on June 24,2005. Appraisal district staff appraisers are available to meet
with taxpayers to discuss the proposed valuation of their properties. The last day to file a timely filed protest with the
Appraisal Review Board is July 25,2005. You may contact the appraisal district office it (325) 356-5253.
Review by the Appraisal Review Board
If you can’t resolve your problem informally with the central appraisal district (CAD) staff, you may have your case
heard by the appraisal review board (ARB).
The ARB is an independent board of citizens that reviews problems with appraisal or other concerns listed above. It
has the power to order the CAD to make the necessary changes to solve problems. If you file a written request for an
ARB hearing (called a notice of protest) before the deadline, the ARB will set your case for a hearing. You'll receive
written notice of the time, date and place of the hearing. If necessary, you may request a hearing in the evening,
Saturday or Sunday (whichever day the ARB sets aside for meetings outside of regular working hours). Prior to your
hearing, you may aik to review the evidence the CAD will use to uphold their determination The CAD may ask you
for a copy of the evidence you plan to present. The hearing will be informal. You or a designated agent may appear in
person to present evidence or you may send notarized evidence for the ARB to review at your hearing. The CAD
representative will present evidence about your case. You may cross-examine the CAD representative The ARB will
make its decision based on the evidence presented. The CAD has the burden of establishing the property’s value by a
preponderance of evidence presented. You can get a copy of a protest form from the appraisal district office at #8
Huett Circle, Comanche, Texas.
Note: You shouldn't try to contact ARB members outside of the hearing. The law requires ARB members to sign an
affidavit saying that they haven’t talked about your case before the ARB hears it.
Review by the District Court
After it decides your case, the ARB must send you a copy of its order by certified mail. If you’re not satisfied with the
decision, you have the right to appeal to district court. If you choose to go to court, you must start the process by filing
a petition within 45 days of the date you receive the ARB's order.
Tax Payment
If you appeal and your case it pending, you must pay the leaser ofthe amount of taxes due on the portion ofthe taxable
value not in dispute or the amount of taxes due on the property under the order from which the appeal is taken

You can get more information by contacting your appraisal district at Comanche Central Appraisal District, #8 Huett
