ISSUED WEEKLY TO ALL SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL . - - - - No. 657
26 February 1964
EXPANDED COST The Industrial Engineering Department has
REDUCTION EFFORT progressively developed a manufacturing work
control technique to reduce unit costs and
production cycle time. This technique, called
"Crewloading," was used on the B-58 program with excellent results.
We have assisted vendors in applying the technique with equal success.
As part of our expanded cost reduction effort on the F-111 Program we
will extend the use of crewloading in areas such as fabrication and
instrumentation operation. In order to improve our general effective-
ness in using the technique, the Industrial Engineering Department has
prepared an explanatory booklet entitled "CREWLOADING." This booklet
describes typical applications and explains the mechanics of the pro-
cedure. Copies are available upon request from the Educational Services
Section, extension 3444.
F-ll ASSEMBLY Rearrangements of assembly areas continue in
LINE PROGRESS preparation for F-111 production. Many assem-
bly fixtures are now in their ultimate loca-
tions. They will be completed at these lo-
cations. These include assembly fixtures for the Glove, Stabilization
Boom, Aft Center Fuselage, Wing, Cheek and Forward Center Fuselage.
Mating fixtures are in place for the Center Fuselage.
