facility for 45 days beginning Thursday
During a public meeting Wednesday night.
Lloyd Parks, president of AMAX. said that the
company would shut down for 45 days. Install a

that are pertinent to AMAX’s getting permitted
to operate by the Texas Air Control Board
The facility, however, will have to start up In
45 days so that the company can legally keep its

The decisions were made after a four-hour
discussion and finger-pointing session between
the residents of the small community in which
the facility Is located and AMAX officials State
Rep. Mark Stiles, who represents Chambers
County, acted as a mediator in the discussions
AMAX began operating its Cedar Point facili-
ty in August 1985.
The company has had several equipment
malfunctions — one of which caused s severe oi-
