Moore Memorial Public Library

The history of Moore Memorial Public Library dates back to 1928, when the Texas City Civics' Club and the City of Texas City arranged to provide a small library within the newly built City Hall. The Library has grown over the years and now hosts an Archive that documents, preserves and curates archival material representing the history of Texas City, the surrounding community, and Galveston County. In 2006, the Library received the Rescuing Texas History Grant for its effort in preserving historical materials. Contributions found within the Moore Memorial Library Portal collections include newspapers, photos, postcards and manuscript materials.

This photo is a close-up of Item bayphalb_03 enlarging the cockpit and right hand area of the airplane and crew.

Additional information:
"Wright C., SC-16 Trainer," with Lts. Thomas D. Milling, instructor and Fred Seydel student, Texas City, Texas, May 1913. The 'C" was a larger, heavier version of the 'B', and had fixed vertical stabilizers (Blinkers) in front for additional stability. SC-16 was flown to Houston and back by Lt. Kirtland with Sgt. Idzorek, mechanic, 12 March 1913. It was transferred to San Diego in June 1913, however, a cracked crankcase prevented it from flying. There were no spare 50 h.p. engines, thus preventing this 'C' from joining the rest of the Wright 'C's." (USAF Museum photo)."
