desperate aftrays m the history of this
state occurring in a lenioto pait of that
county Thursday night and which re-
sulted in tho instant death of Sheriff
Timothy Hall and of two brothers
named .Mullin and the probable fatal
wounding of Deputy .Sheriff Hall.

"Doc" Taylor was oeuted m Virginia
for murder and confessed while on tho
scaffold that two brothers named Mul-
lin had been his accomplices and were
equally guilty. A reward of -JltlUO was
offered for tho Mullms. who lied and.
although officers bearched oery where
for them they could not be found
Kecontly Norforlk and Western nul-
road Dectivo V S Bevans of Colum-
bus O. located tho outlaws in Mercer
and planed their capture. Hearing of
this Sheriff Hall and Deputy Hall de-
termined to get ahead of him
The Halls located the Mullins in a
cabin in the nioimtaiiih and Thursday
evening they made a rush for it. think-
ing to take the inmates by surprise. Tn
this thoy erred for as thev entered the
door tho Mullins fired upon them and
SliPiift Hall foil dead while the dopuU
reeoivtd a bullet in the head and was
ltndered unconscious Recovering he
shot one of the Mullins dead and as ho
fired win shot at m return and his jaw-
broken. When Hevans and his patty
raided the cabin an hour after ho found
three men dead and Deputy Hall wiith-
ing m agony on the floor and from the
wounded man. after Ins wounds had
been dressed he learned tho story of
the affair.
