Vol. 1 No. 5 Published on board U. S. S. TEXAS, GUANTANAMO, CUBA. 1 March 1925SPECIAL SERVICE COMMIS-
SION TO VISIT GUAN-
TANAMO, CUBA
While you are reading this, the U. S.
S. UTAH flying the flag of Admiral
Dayton, Commander of the Special
Service Squadron may be in our midst.
The Special Service Commission con-
sists of the following distinguished
persons:
Chief of the Commission, General J.
J. Pershing, U. S. A. (retired) Ambassa-
dor Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Members, Rear Admiral J. H. Day-
ton, U.S.N., Envoy Extraordinary and
Minister Plenipotentiary.
2nd Secretary of the Embassy, State
Department, Mr. Raymond Cox.
In addition, there are two aides from
the army with the rank of Major, and
two from the Navy with the rank of
Lieutenant Commander.
It is expected that upon the arrival of
General Pershing and the Mission the
station at Guantanamo, Cuba and per-
haps the battleships in the harbor will be
inspected.
In all probability the official party will
visit Havana, taking in some sugar and
tobacco plantations and perhaps a factory
enroute. They also may visit Santiago
journeying thither by destroyer.
By the time the UTAH returns to the
United States she will have visited mostof the South American countries and those
on board have the distinction of having
crossed the equator and sailed through
the Straits of Magellan.
The issues of "The Big U" ship's
paper published on board the UTAH
carries, during January, most interesting
accounts of the cities visited.
ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF
THE NAVY TO MAKE
OFFICIAL VISIT TO
GUANTANAMO
We are informed that the Assistant
Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Theodore
Douglas Robinson, will visit Guantanamo,
Cuba toward the end of March, on an
inspecting tour. It is probable that he
will return to the United States on the
U. S. S. New York.
BIRDS DO GREAT WORK
It is expected that the aviation camp
at Hicacal Beach will be broken up this
week. The planes have finished their
observation work and they with their
pilots will return to their respective ships.
The aviation detatchment has made a
splendid record while at Guantanamo.
They have accomplished every mission
assigned them with complete success.
We are proud of the fine record our
flyers have made. There have been no
casualties, plane, engine or radio whichcaused any plane to fail in its assigned
mission and no plane has been damaged
even in a minor degree.
