why he was not at Washington lob

moving heaven and earth to get his
Mexican cattle across the Eio Grande
before the bill became a law. Col.
Fant pleads guilty as far as the pro-
tection of our cattle interests are
conceined but denounces the latter
as a fabrication pure and simple .
The Journal knowB whereof it
speaks when it says that it is doubt
ful if the colonel would know a
Mexican steer if he should meet it
in the road. It 13 in order now for
his friends to come out with an apol-

the Dingley law than for all other
