Keeping Up
Feldon and Clara Mae Jones '31, and
daughter, Sammie Louise, have gone from
Charlotte, Texas, to Vancouver, Washing-
ton, where he will work at the Kaiser Ship-
yards.
Mrs. Annie Bess Chambers Slaughter '25,
has been visiting her mother in Abilene,
while her husband is attending a special
school in Washington. After completing
the course, Slaughter will return to Harlin-
gen, Texas where he is stationed.
Cpl. Gup W. McCarty '42, is now over-
seas with the Marine Corps.
Married: Mary Baggett '29, and Sgt.
Stephen M. Grange, of Akron, Ohio. The
marriage took place on Saturday, Septem-
ber 18, in a twilight service at the First
Baptist Church in Abilene. The couple will
live in Abilene.
Orleanor Dellis '42, of Abilene, is study-
ing at the Eastman Conservatory, Roches-
ter, N. Y. She graduated last May from
H-S U with a B. M. Degree, and is work-
ing toward a M. M. degree at Eastman.
Maye Belle Taylor '29, is with the U.S.O.
at Recofe (Pernambuco), Brazil. She writes
to Abilene friends telling them that she is
a teacher at the American Girl's School
and does her U.S.O. work much in the same
fasnlon that it is done in the states.
nouert ullgore '41, received his wings
on Aug. 21, at Mather Field, Calif. He is a
navigator and is stationed at Gowen Field,
Boise, Idaho.
Helen Cope '43, and Marylyn Sandefer
'43 are both teaching at Midland, Texas.
Married: Martha Elizabeth Howell '42,
of Abilene, and Cpl. Charles S. Owen of
Abilene, and Greenville, S. C. The marriage
took place at the University Church, on
v eanesday, Sept. 15. Martha will return
to her work as secretary to the pastor of
University Church, and Owen will return
to S. C. where he is with the Chemical War-
fare Department of the Ar my. Martha
graduated from H-S U with highest honors,
and was Olsen Medal winner.
Lt. Del M. Everton '41, has been in Abi-
lene on a short leave to visit his mother,
Mrs. Nora Everton, speech instructor in
the university. Del is in the Army Air
Corps.
Hubert A. Owens '34, formerly of Spur,
has been elected principal of the Munday'
High School. He will also serve as band
director and teacher of business adminis-
tration.
George Lynn Brewer '36, has assumedduties as sanitarian of the Sweetwater,
Nolan County, Health Unit. Lynn served
for several years in the health department
at El Paso. For the past year he was in
the army stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla.
as sanitary technician. His headquarters
will be in Sweetwater.WithThe Exes
Pvt. Frank R. Elliott '43, of Abilene, is
in a twelve week basic training course at
St. Norbert College, West DePere, Wis.
Capt. Leonard R. Lynch '28, is now at
Texas A & M College, College Station, Tex.
Rev. Orval A. Hendon '35. has moved
from Hylton, Texas, to 700 Lamar Street,
Sweetwater, Texas.
Pvt. Eldon F. Kennedy '43, was in Abi-
lene recently on a leave. He is in training
at Poly Institute, Ruston, La.-an officer
in prep school.
Hoyt E. West '38, has been commissioned
a second Lieutenant in the Army Air
Forces, at Pampa.
Lillian "Putsy" Cowan '43, and Nita Mae
Boyd '45, have been invited to compete in
the contests which will be held at Madison
Square Garden this fall.
Charles W. Corley '30, has been promot-
ed to a First Lieutenant. He is stationed
at Hamilton Field, Calif.
Married: Lt. Hunter H. Brannon '38, and
Miss Doris Cherry. The marriage took place
on July 28, at Selm, Ala. The couple is liv-
ing temporarily at Montgomery, Ala.
Jon Roger Geer '43, has reported to Dal-
las for active duty in the Naval Air Corps.
A. L. Stell '43, is in training at T. C. U.
He and three other H-S U boys are part
Jf the several hundred naval boys who are
housedd on the campus.
G. Avery Lee '39, will leave Baton
Rouge, La. soon for Yale University, where
he will complete work for a degree in Theo-
iogy. He visited in Abilene and Dallas
before going.
Lt. Wm. R. Gaddis '38, has reported to
Fort Mason, Calif. for duty in the Station
hospital at the San Francisco Port of Em-
barkation. Bill is in the Arm y Medical
Corps. Mrs. Gaddis is the former Et.ta-
vanda Riddle '38.
Born: To Lt. and Mrs. M. W. Wilson
(Lucille Powers '42) a daughter, Billie
Jean. Date of birth was August 4. The Wil-
sons live at 309 Elm Street, in Abilene.
Lucille was a former featured soloist with
The Cowgirl Band.
Louise Buckley '3 , has been visiting in
Abilene. She is a piano instructor at Bay-
lor in Waco.
McBuel Gibbs '41, has been commissioned
an Ensign at the Corpus Christi Naval
Training Station.
Married: Rose Marie Clawson '37, and
S. Sgt J. E. Lemons. The marriage took
place at high noon on Aug. 8, at the First
Baptist C'hurch, Tampa, Fla. Mrs. Lemonswill return to Snyder, Texas, where she has
been teaching for the past three years.
Clara Parmelly Cooper '32, was on the
campus the other day. She has returned to
San Benito in the fall to teach. Billy '32 is
a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy and is sta-tioned in the Pacific.
G. W. "Gus" Cook '26, is a Lieut. Com-
mander in the U. S. Naval Reserve. He has
charge of the Office of Officer Procure-
ment in Dallas.
Lt. Wm. R. Sanders '40, is participating
in the battle for Italy. He is a navigator
in the Army Air Force.
Ruth Ann Hall '41, has accepted the pos-
ition of head of the speech and dramatics
department at the Avarette Junior College
for Girls, in Dannville. Va. She assumed
that position on Sept. 15.
Johnnie Patterson '35, has had three pro-
motions since she joined the WACS. She is
now a staff sergent stationed at Daytona
Beach, Fla. She trains new recruits at the
station.
Rev. A. A.DuLaney '17, of the First
Church, Roswell, N. Mex. is doing a fine
job. He has done much to lower the Church
debt, and his record of achievement shows
chat he has been a blessing to the Roswell
Church. He has an opening for a young
preacher and his wife to lead in Mission
work for his church. The salary is good a nu

student. Miller's youngest daughter, Loi,
will graduate in 1945. He reports several
very successful revivals this year. He viil

We have changed the address of Rev. B.
Locke Davis '24, from Springfield, Mo.. to
Chaplain B. L.,Davis, U. S. Naval Training
Station, Bainbridge, Md.
Carrie Ora Stephenson Carruth '24, was
by the offices a few days past and reported
that she and her husband were moving to
Port Arthur, Tex., where he will practice
law. Their address will be Box 936.
Born: Miss Sally Tucker Nelson, daugh-
ter of Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Nelson (Angie
McCurdy '33), was born on Aug. 11, in
Wichita Falls. The Nelsons have two other
children, Nancy Jane, age two, and Dick,
who is four.
1Richard Crawley '38. the fine little cor-
net player in The Cowboy Band of a few
years past, is in North Africa with an army
band. His address is available if you wish it.
Lawrence Payne '27, did a very fine job
as superintendent of the Hillcrest Memorial
Hospital, at Waco. He is now superinten-
dent of the Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
Married: Arthurea Brown '42, of CampBarkeley and Lt. Stanley H. Rubinowitz of
New York City and Camp Barkeley.
