Members and directors of the
Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers’

Tri-Annual Meeting at Angelo
SUU. University, * to sponsor a
proposed referendum which
would Involve 16,704 producers
and 9,678,000 head of sheep and
goats In 73 counties, to raise
Mated revenue which would go
into a predator control pro-
gram. .
The proposed' program calls
for the maximum deduction of
30 cents a head on sheep and 10
goats, and would be expected to
raise over $400,000, from 32 new
treppers would be hired to help
combat predators by coordinat-
ing with the county trappers to
assist them In problem areas.
The proposed program Is not
meant to take the place of any
predator control work now be-
ing done In counties but to add
to their present control work!
Assessment In the program, if
the referendum Is passed, will
be made onfall sheep and goats
coming off'pasture and or pro-
ducer-raised lambs going Into
feedlots. Assessments will be
collected and forwarded to the
Commodity Board at the end of
each month. Collections will be
ipade by any firm or Individual
who purchases sheep or goats
off pasture.
The referendum which now
must be peUUoned to the Com-
missioner of Agriculture for his
certification, would be conduct-
ed by mall ballot sent together
with a self-addressed, postage-
paid envelope to all sheep and
goat producers In the 73-county
area. Producers would then
vote for or against the referen-
dum and elect one director from
each of the six districts which
comprise the 73 counties. Three
directors at large will also be
elected, and these directors will
make up the producer board of
nine directors.
