Quail Hunting Due To Be Good;
May Turn Out Different Picture
SAN ANGELO — Nature has
scattered wildlife across wide
areas of West Texas and the
Panhandle this year, especially
bahwhite and blue quail. Some
areas are due to have good
hunting, some not so good.
Wildlife biologists of the Tex-
as Parks and Wildlife Depart-
ment usually are cautiqus about
forecasts and predictions of
quail populations until all cen-
sus Information has been com-
piled and analyzed. This year Is
no exception. Census data bear
out the need for careful study
before saying the hunter is In
for either a good or bad year
when the season opens.
In some counties of the upper
Panhandle the quail crop Is
down as much as 44 per cent,;
while farther south the popula-
tion appears to promise another
good year. In the Trans-Pecos
regjon there is a marked decline
In a few areas, a fine huntable
crop In others.
According to Jack Parsons.
wildlife supervisor for the 90-
county area of the Department's
Region I, portions of the Per-
mian Basin show a five per cent
increase over the fine crop of
last year, with, a few game
management officers pinpoint-
ing spots where blue quail hunt-
ing should be Extremely good,
bobwhite hunting good, and a
few counties with both species
shqwlngy evidence of a plentiful
sili>ply of both birds.
Areas that suffered from
drought conditions during win-
ter and spring months hold lit-
tle promise. Spots where rains
came during the summer have
birds enough to make the hunt-
er's trigger finger get Itchy.

team played the Burnet “B”
team here last Thursday night.
Burnet won over the Eagle “B”
team by a score of 34-0.
The Eagles played a good first
half holding the Burnet team
with an aggressive defense. At
half time Burnet led 7-0.
The Eaglek^wh® were playing
with injuries, had two offensive
starters out and were forced to
make several changes to fill
these positions. Because of this
the Eagle offense was not as
effective as It will be when the
boys adjust to their new posi-

Despite the score, defense was
the Eagles' strong point,- until
