Ropes I.S.D. releases honor roll
ROMANTIC TANGLES - Female lead Carissa Stamps (left) from
Panhandle, as Cherie, has been kidnapped by a young cowhand named Bo
Decker, played by Ben Gandy, male lead from Whiteface (center) in the
upcoming South Plains College romantic comedy, ‘‘Bus Stop" by William
Inge. At right is Jeremy Lopez from San Angelo, who intervenes as Will
Martinez the sheriff. Performances for SPC’s spring theatrical production
are 8 p.m. March 2-4 and 2 p.m. March 5 in SPC’s Theatre for the
Performing Arts. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. For ticket

Retired teachers learn about aerobics
AUTO BODY WINNERS - Three South Plains College auto collision
repair majors took three of the top five slots in the recent Regional
Postsecondary VICA Skills Challenge. From left are Austin Estes, first
overall and first on the written exam; Rigo Hernandez, third overall, and
Ro Cook, fifth overall. They competed with students from Amarillo
College and Technical State Institute at Sweetwater in metalworking,
painting and refinishing, and welding. The competition was hosted for the

Association of Retired Teachers
met February 21 in the Garden
Room of the Senior Citizen’s
Center
Dale Albright, president, called
the meeting to order He welcomed
the members and guest, Jamie

The pledge to the U S. flag was
led by Basil Foster. Faye Walker led
the pledge to the Texas flag Harley
Bulls gave the innovation
Jim Leggitt, health care
chairman, introduced Jamie Reed, a
teacher of aerobics at the First
Baptist Church Jamie told of the
types of aerobics. She taught and
gave the different times for each
class She invited all of the group to
join her for the free exercise classes
at the church. She emphasized that
we would each work at our own
level
Our group of retired teachers
were asked to volunteer as tutors
for the schools, giving one hour per
week to work with a teacher and her
class
Delegates to the state
convention in San Antonio on April
5-8 were nominated They were Jim
Leggitt, Mary Albright, and Jackie
French
Frances and Don Raymond
decorated the tables in a patriotic
theme in honor of president's day
The Raymond’s also furnished the
door prizes

FAMILY GATHERING—Several Levelland residents helped celebrate
Audie Greene’s father’s 104* birthday. Ms. Greene’s father is Ray Lewis.
He was bom in Wizard Wells, Texas which is in Jack County. His wife
died in 1974 with cance rand since that time he has lived by himselt and
still does most of his cooking and house keeping. He drove his car and
mowed his lawn until he was 100-years-old. He has nine children, a
living, 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great
grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren. He farmed until
1943k then moved to Fort Worth and went to work for Consolidated
Aircraft Corporation. He helped build the B-24 and B-32 bombers that
were used in World War II. He worked there for several years and then
worked for an office supply store until he retired. A host of relatives and
friends attended his birthday party, including four of Ms. Greene s children
and one granddaughter. Among those attending were Faye Dean Barry
Sheila Kiser, Johnny Greene, Lonnie Greene and wife and Sherri and
Benny Morris. Ms. Greene is the wife of the late Virgil Greene. Shown

Barry, Pat Greene, Lonnie Greene, Roy Lewis, Audie Greene and C larence

delivered more than 1.200 cans of food to the Hockley County Food Box on
Feb 25 The donation capped a canned food drive that the home called
