From the Creaux's Nest
WE HAVE JUST BEGUN
What a week the past one has been. Our last week's issue of The
Record was spread throughout the state and beyond on the Associated
Press wire--Dallas, New Orleans, Galveston, Port Arthur are some of
the places whose publications gave us credit for the factual Peterson
story. Some papers ran our information but didn't give us credit, but
they were few.
Our investigation has uncovered new, never published information
about the Webber death and surrounding circumstances. Read about
it in this issue. * •
I am amazed at the number of outright lies being told about Donna
Peterson Webber. But in time the truth will surface. Most everything
you have seen published is not factual and is being released to certain
press by folks who have their hand in the cookie jar. They want more
than their share of the cookies is how it appears to me.
We have a good paper. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that we
are the best read paper in Orange County. And we thank you.
Gotta get started. So come along. It won't do you no harm.
REWARD FOR A YOUNG HERO
In light of the tragedy of youngsters who killed in Arkansas, a young
Orange Countian who came to the rescue of an elderly man, saving his
life, showed us the brighter side of our youth, the spirit of a real hero.
A scholarship fund has been started at Bridge City Bank to rewaifa
him and help with future schooling. Donations of as little as a dollar
would be greatly appreciated. Many of you may wish to give more,
but let's all show our appreciation to Andrew Mambretti for his
heroic deed.
WE'RE TEACHING TOO MUCH MEANNESS
It's getting to be to mean a country.
It's sad about the young girls and their teacher who were killed in
Jonesboro, Ark., last week. But it also saddens me about the little
boys, 11 and 13 years old, who fired those shots and killed those
unsuspecting young people. They are just children, and nothing makes
them adults.
What went wrong with those kids? Personally I believe today's
children are being raised in a mean society. If we don't change, it will
get worse.
Never in the history of this country has there been so much hate and
bashing and leaching of disrespect-the attack on the Presidency, the
teaching of hate in many of our homes. We've gotten too far from that
old American standard, "patriotism." We don't do enough to teach love
of country and our fellow man.
I believe it's ufair to blame guns, knives, clubs and other inanimate
devices. 1 don’t rightly know where the blame lies--television,
tabloids, world events or others--but I do know that we are changing.
Our youth just doesn't seem to have compassion for others. To them,
right and wrong are one and the same.
Maybe we're not teaching the difference. We teach too much
meanness. Murders, killings, bombing. I suspect I won't be around to
see how it all ends.
THE FACTS-NOTHING BUT THE FACTS*
Chris Farkas has been working on an investigative report on the
Peterson-Webber saga. His investigation has taken him to many
places and on-many interviews in search of the truth.
We report only the facts uncovered as he learns them. We are in no
way attempting to sensationalize.
Until we got interested in learning what the facts were, we were
bombarded with just one side of the story that was loaded with many
untruths, being leaked primarily by estate executor, Herbert
Christenberry, or his associates. The joke of the week was when he
accused us of leaking information. He promiscuously puts out
disinformation, and what’s more amazing is that some media will pick
it up and print it.
We won't and most other media won't either. If you read it in this
paper, it's been checked and double-checked.
A love affair reported by a tabloid last week is so untrue that it is
sickening. Those facts will come out later.
In the meantime, reserve judgment. Read the exclusive Record
stories and you'll be more intrigued with the facts than you are with the
fiction.
For my money. I'm betting there was no foul play. I’m also sure the
money-grabbers will do anything to deny Mrs. Webber what's
rightfully hers.
For our part, we'll need to stick with the facts and keep digging until
we get them all out.
BOY WHAT RESPONSE
We ran a "Life's Highway" column last week about J.P. Thibodeaux
and the big Cajun reunion in August of 1999. Thibodeaux, chairman
of the event, expects 300-500,000 Cajuns who trace their ancestry
back to Nova Scotia.
Apparently more work has already been done than we thought. We
have heard from people who have been tracing their genealogy, and
individual family names will be having gatherings during the two-
week celebration. Example: Boudreauxs will all gather at a certain
hotel, and some have rented convention rooms throughout south
Louisiana.
The main host city will be New Iberia.
We havfc heard from many people who are interested in more
information. Thibodeaux called Monday morning; he is making
information available that we will pass on next week.

A FEW HAPPENINGS
As of this week, Austin-Lee will have completed the transection of
| the auto complex with the JJ*. Thibodeaux dealership holdings. I'm
not sure what the new dealership will be called. I do have a
suggestion. Since Orange County is "where the sun rises on Tkxas,"
and the dealership is right there at the gateway, why not "Sunrise
Autoplex"? "Where the stars shine brightest" is a motto. Oh well, no
one ever takes my suggestions. Clay Higgins is the man in charge,
and he promises many good things are coming for auto buyers. Watch
Orange County's best read paper. The Record, weekly for great deals
coming down the pike. One thing you can bet: they will be aggressive
and move cars.^^^^*Coming soon to BC-Sun Wok 2. a new

Q. Liquor. All proceeds benefit the BC High School Project
Graduation.•••••Not only doing the right thing but doing the
only thing is what the Pinehurst City Council did in choosing to
move on. After the next election in May when new councilmen come
on board, they should immediately move to bring a new administrator
on board who is compatible with the council and the
city.^^^^^Roy tells about this guy named Carl Andrus, a
Pinehurst resident who married one of those pretty Guidry girls from
Abbeville 56 years ago. She was a downtown girl, Roy says. She
lived on South St. Charles. Carl's Yankee folks landed around
Oakdale. He's retired from "the plant," Dupont. Too many times
Yankees came down and stole our Cajun girls, Dunn says. Carl is a
nice guy; maybe too ^(^.•••••What was Glenn Earle's birth

gone from the paper. A new guy has been hired. Don't know much
about him yet.^^^^^

Thanks for tagging along. Hope you haven't been harmed.
We have big news coming your way soon.
