14 to 19, in Washington, D C. The
National Young Leaders Conference is
a unique leadership development
program for high school students who

junior at Bridge City High School,- will
be among 350 outstanding National
Scholars attending the conference
from across America.
Throughout the six-day conference,

Silver Gloves Boxing
Tournament Slated For Weekend

The Orange Area Boxing Club will
host the Gulf #25 Regional Boxing
Tournament in Orange Saturday and
Sunday, November 18 and 19, accord-
ing to club spokesperson Harry
Murdock.
"We've been telling everyone that
we’ll continue to bring boxing back to
this area, and this is proof of it," said
Murdock.
After coming off a very successful
"Fite Nite" September 30, the club is
happy to bring this quality of boxing to
the Orange area. This tournament is for
the whole Houston Region from
Angelton (south of Galveston) to
Bryan/College Station, east to the
Sabine River, and consists of over 40
teams. This is an advancement
tournament, which means anyone
wishing to move on to state and
possibly to the national show, must box
at the show in Orange. The show is for
open fighters (8 bouts or more), and
ages range from 8 to15 years. Austin
Green, club representative, said,
"We're going to have kids boxing here
in Orange with 40 to 60 amateur fights.
This is going to be the best of the best
from our region in these age groups."
The tournament will be held at the
Natonal Guard Armory on Meeks Drive
in Orange, with preliminary bouts
beginning Saturday at 6 p.m. and the
tournament finals beginning Sunday at
2 p.m.
Lane Dupre, 75 lb 13 year old, wM be
the only Orange fighter eligble for the
Jane Monday, of the Texas State University System, arrived In
Orange Wednesday with State Sen. Jim Turner, D-Crockett,
who is seeking Democratic nomination for the 2nd
Congressional District.
Turner said, ckiring his campaign stop her*, that Monday has
been very involved in stressing the importance of Lamar
University at Orange.
He stressed that Monday supports him and wants to help
Lamar, which is now part of the Texas State University System.
Turner pledged to open an Orange office if elected to the seat

never had a Congressional office located here.
He said, "Orange County is a critical pert of our district." He
