A. One way to unify the furniture is to paint or stain ail the
pieces the same ootor. Choose the color that best suits your
taste end home. Change al the haidware (handtos) or puls to

pieces you have, cover ft with a tablecloth.

A. Change a few accents. Walt into your home and look at the
rooms as if you were a guesL It oould be that your home is only
"stagnate" to you and that can easily be remedied. Changing a
tablecloth is an easy way to bring fresh color into a dining room.

your waft hangings tor suggestions of strong color to use. Paint
aft architectural features such as the comice moulding on doors
or fireplace surround. Hang a lightweight nig by screwing a
piece of carpet griper strip (slightly shorter than the rug width)
securely to the waft. Press the rug firmly onto the strip. There
are richly patterned rugs that are inexpensive but make a
dramatic statement This is cheaper than purchasing a tapestry,,
but stB achieves the same effect.
Q. My waftB are a dark grayish blue. I noticed I tend to pick out
dark pictures and donl know what to do other than to change my
taste. Do you think I can get by with dark pictures on dark wafts?
A. Ybs, you definitely can get by with dark pictures on dark
walls. The frame and the mat will save the picture from
disappearing into the waft. Choose light colors from the picture
to mat and frame your print. Gold or silver frames are an option.

Half time festivities at the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day will
feature nine talented young ladies from Bridge City High School.
These girts, who have been chosen as members of the All-
American Drill Team, are Strutters officers Jessie Cole and
Courtney Huckaby, and line members Rachel Belk, Kari
Degeyter, Kelly Everett, Carrie Fletcher, Amber Fontenot, Krissy
Johnson, and Corrin Talbert.
They will leave for Orlando, Florida, to prepare for the halftime
show on December 27 and return home on January 2.
Future fund raisers include a raffle and teddy bear booth at the
Bridge City Holiday Showcase on November 18.
They will also be wrapping Christmas gifts at Super Wal-Mart on
Friday, November 24.
On November 28, they wM teach a drift team dinic for junior high
students in the high school gym from 3:45 to 630 p. m. with the
last fifteen minutes being a show for the parents to demonstrate
what the girls have learned. Cost is $10.
The girls thank the community for supporting their fund raising
efforts.

Today, in airplanes, cars, and trains, however, people do go
over the mountains or through the desert with a turkey destined
lor Grandmother's house Is it any safer to carry a cooked tur-
key now than ft was on a camel train?
"Many cafters to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline ask
whether traveling with a turkey is safe to do," says Susan Con-
ley, director of the nationwide toll free hotline. "Yes, its ail right -
if some safe handling rules are followed to avoid food borne 91-
ness"
Here are some questions callers ask the hotline concerning
safe transportation of the holiday turkey The answers also ap-
ply to short jaunts by camel train.
Q. Can the turkey be cooked a day ahead of time and then
taken to someone’s house the next day?
A. Yes, but for safety’s sake, you won t be able to travel with
the whole bird intact. Be sure to cook the turkey in an oven set
no lower than 325 degrees. Check to be sure the turkey has
cooked completely to an internal temperature of 180 degrees as
measured in several places with a meat thermometer. Then let
the turkey stand 20 minutes.
If stuffed, remove the stuffing and let cool in small, shallow
dishes. Carve all the meat from the turkey, leaving legs, thighs
and wings intact if desired. Divide the carved turkey meat and
the turkey parts into small, shallow containers or packages. This
ensures rapid, even cooling and quick reheating after getting to
Grandmother’s house.
Refrigerate the turkey and stuffing within two hours of cook-
ing. Or freeze the foods if you don’t plan to eat them within
three to four days.
When preparing to travel, pack the turkey and other perish-
able food in an insulated cooler with a cold source such as ice or
frozen gel packs. At your destination, transfer the foods to a re-
frigerator and heat in a 325 degree oven or in a microwave oven
until the foods reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees, or
are steaming hot.
Q. How long will a raw or cooked turkey keep unrefrigerated
for transporting to someone’s house?
A No longer than two hours. For either a raw or cooked tur-
key, it’s still a good idea to use an insulated cooler as a carrier
(use two coolers if carrying both types). To transport a raw tur-
key, take it out of the refrigerator and place it in the cooler im-
mediately before leaving. Stow it where it will be coldest in the
car. Upon arrival, immediately refrigerate the raw turkey.
To transport an unstuffed cooked turkey, take it out of the
oven, immediately wrap it in foil, and put it directly into the cooler
before putting in into the warmest spot in the car. Don’t try to
transport a stuffed turkey.
A hot turkey must be put directly into a warm oven (Set at 200
degrees or higher) until serving time. Set the oven high enough
to maintain the internal temperature of the turkey at 140 degrees
or higher.
Q. Can I slow-cook the turkey at 200 degrees overnight so
it’s ready to go in the morning?
A. No! It’s not safe to cook a turkey (or any other meat, for

cause it takes too long for the turkey to reach a temperature high
enough to ki food borne bacteria.
Other advice. Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold at al
times. Sometimes it’s just safer to give up on the idea of taking
your feast somewhere else The risks may outweigh the bene-
fits.
