HSU TRUSTEES OK NEW MASTERS;
SEVEN PROMOTED, TWO TENURED
HSU will initiate three new masters programs begin-
ning in the fall of 1994. Trustees, in their annual spring
meeting Friday, February 18, approved the new graduate
degrees.
The new programs are a master of science in environ-
mental management, a master of education in gifted and
talented, and a master of education in sport and recre-
ation management.
In other action, trustees approved from their Aca-
demic Committee the granting of promotion in rank to
seven faculty and tenure for two librarians.
The recommendations were approved by Dr. W.
Craig Turner, vice president for academic affairs, with
endorsements from Dr. Lanny Hall, president,. and the
Faculty Development, Rank and Tenure Committee.
Recommended for promotions were Paul York,
music, to assistant professor; Dr. Jeffrey Schonberg,
English, to associate professor; Ms. Linda Fawcett, art, to
professor; Dr. Larry McGraw, theology, to professor; Dr.
James Myers, business, to professor; Ms. Belinda Norvell,
library, to professor; and Dr. Ronald Rainwater, physical
education, to professor.
Recommended for tenure were Ms. Elaine Coffman
and Ms. Carolyn McClellan, both of the Richardson
Library.PHONATHON - The annual HSUPhonathon ended
Saturday, March 5, according to Margaret Hoogstra,
coordinator. Shown on the first night making calls to
exes throughout the nation was Andrea Rodriguez
(forefront). Student volunteers and alumni assisted.
All funds contributed go to scholarships for students.

Scheduled for April 29, 1994
The annual HSU Alumni Association sponsored
Faculty-Staff Appreciation Banquet will be on April 29,
1994, at the Abilene Civic Center. Special awards will be
made for those at five- and ten-year service intervals, and
