Water Conservation
District Board To
Meet Monday Night
The Board of Directors of
the Panhandle Ground Water
Conservation District will hold
its regular quarterly meeting
Monday night, February 7,
at 7:30 p. m. at the District
Office in White Deer.
| Business before the Board
will be approval of well per-
mits, expenditures, certifi-
cation of the election held
on January 15 and the election
of officers of the Board for the
coming year.
Through cooperation with
the White Deer High School
Student Council and the White
Deer chapter of the American
Field Service, seven foreign
exchange students attended
the Jamboree January 28, 29
i and 30th.
The exchange students
were Tovar Nunes from Brazil,
who is living in Pampa, No-
guko Vekuri from Japan, who
. is living in Dumas, Aitor
Vicario of Spain, now of
[ Amarillo, Andrea Beaver,
New Zealand, now of Tulia,
Minoo Kalania, Iran, now
of Amarillo and Birgit Lund-
by, Denmark, making her
home this year with the Char- '
les Warminskis of White Deer.
On Friday the students
* visited classes at high school
and performed their various
talents at an assembly. That
night they attended the bas-
ketball game between WD
and Stinnett. Later that night
they attended a party at the
Green Punkin given by the
student council.
A full list of activities
on Saturday; beginning with
a brunch at the Grady Milton
home. Mr. Milt6n is the
local A* F. S. president. They
were given a tour of the Terry
,ranc.h and the Hay Hook
Ranch, north of Skellytown.
A tour of Phillip's Copoly-
mer plant west of Borger was
next on the schedule. The
group learned the basics on
making rubber.
After a stop in Borger for
Pizza they returned to White
Deer for an evening of games
at the high school gym. All
of the student body was in-
vited to share this night of
fun. Student Council presid-
ent Bobby Tollison stated,
! "The turn out for the party
' in the gym was exceptionally
good. Mr. Snipes, the high
school principal made re-
freshments for everyone. We
■might try to open the gym
more often to allow the stu-
dents an opportunity to en-
joy it more often. "
Members of the United
Methodist Church served lunch
to the exchange students on
Sunday before they departed
at 3 o'clock.
American Field Service Jamboree Sponsored By High School And Local A J JS. Chapter

At Auction
At an auction held Tues-
day morning, Emit's Foods
was bought by Edwin Staton,
Hubert Jones, Bobby Baker,
Jerry Staton and Johnny
Brown.
Mr. Jones stated their
plans for the store was to
open a "Bylow Food Store"
in about three weeks. They
have a store in Sunray,
Claude and Clarendon. Mr.
Jones has been in the grocery
business for about 35 years.
A Grand Opening is planned
for after the first of March.
Edwin Staton will be the
manager and plans to move
here from Clarendon.

Buck’s Drive-In Under
New Management
Will and Lillian Powers
took over the management
of Buck's Drive-In this week.
Mrs. Powers stated that
they would be open at 6 in
the morning to serve break-
fast and will close at 9 p. m.
The drive inn will be open
six days a week, being closed
on Sunday.

1977 Motor Vehicle
Tags NowOn Sale
The new 1977 motor vehicle
license tags, tabs and receipts
are now on sale. The 1976
license will expire April 1.
License tag receipts for
White Deer may be obtained
at the Water Conservation
District Office located one
block west from the First Bank
and Trust Company.
Most of the motor vehicle
owners have already received
the computer type card from
the Texas Highway Depart-
ment Motor Vehicle Division.
Those receiving the computer
type card will need to bring
it with them. Vehicles already
having 1976 license plates will
only receive a sticker or tab
to place on the rear license
plate. New vehicles and those
that were not registered in
1976 will receive license plates
and the necessary sticker or
tabl that is placed on the tags
at the time of purchase.
A number of vehicle own-
ers have not yet received the
renewal computer type card.
Most of these should be receiv-
ing them within a few days
according to a news release
by the Motor Vehicle Division.

B-Team Basketball
Tourney Starts Today
The White Deer-Skellytown
High School Student Council
will sponsor its annual B-Team
Tournament this weekend,
February 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Nine teams will participate .
First, second, third, con-
solation and sportsmanship
trophies will be presented.
Sandwiches, ice cream,
hot dogs and many other de-
licious items will be sold at
the concession stand. The
student council requests that
everyone attend and plan to
eat at the concession stand.

of the B-Teams can be found
on page 4 and 5 of this issue.
White Deer Fire
Department Reports
The White Deer Volunteer
Fire Department made two
runs during the month of
January; one was an emer-
gency run and one was a
truck fire.
CowBelles To Meet
The Top O' Texas Cow-
Belles will meet Monday,
February 7th in the home
of Mrs. Paul Dauer, Pan-
handle at 10:00 a. m.
Community Luncheon Cancelled
The community luncheon
has been cancelled for
today.
Free Clinic, February 10
A clinic offering vaccines
that give protection against
several childhood diseases
is scheduled for February
10, from 1 till 4 p. m.,
at Carver Center, Pampa.
Carver Center is located
at 321 W. Albert.
Protection is against
polio, diphtheria, lock
jaw, whooping cough,
measles and rubella. There
is no charge.
Community Center Gets
Stainless Flatware
The Community Center
received 100 place settings
of stainless flatware this
week from the following

Carson County elected of-
ficials and other county
workers were granted a 10%
increase in salaries by the
Commissioners' Court in
January proceedings. The
final consent for the pay
raise was given in the Jan-
uary 24 meeting, follow-
ing approval of intent of
salary raise in the January
10 meeting.
Other action taken by the
Court during January sess-
ions included: Approval of
a plat of a sub-division
near Fritch, Sage Mesa,
as presented by Brinsons
Developers of Fritch. Ad-
option of a new Blue Cross-
Blue Shield program as
presented by Dan Talley
of Amarillo. Awarding
of contract to an Amarillo
firm for auditing the coun-
ty books. Heasd the annual
Square House Museum report
from Museum Director Jo
Randel; approved the usual
vp500 allotment for the mus-
eum, and granted permis-
sion for the museum to
build a warehouse on county
property either adjacent to
the west side of the Precinct
3 barn in north Panhandle
or nor th of the Panhandle
Herald office. To comply
with a new law requiring
a woman matron for the
jail, Mrs. Winnie Perry,
sheriff's office deputy,
was named to that posit-
ion and will receive the
Mother Of Jennifer
Rapstine Dies In Miss.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Rap-
stine and family left Monday
for McCombs, Mississippi to
attend the funeral services of
Mrs. Rapstine's mother, Mrs.
Angelo (Frances) Rodrique.
Mrs. Rodrique passed away
Monday evening.
Arrangements at press time
were incomplete.
Mrs. Rapstine's father is
also seriously ill in the hos-
pital at McCombs.
Mrs. Ray Armstrong’s
Mother Dies In La.
Mrs. Ray Armstrong
flew to Alexandria, Louis-
iana last Saturday for the
funeral of her mother, Mrs.
C. L. Johnson, 87 years
old. Mrs. Johnson had been
in poor health for some time.
Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong
and their children were there
at Christmas time and she
was ill then.
Congratulation to Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Hughes
on the birth of a son Jan-
uary 24, 1977 at Northwest
Texas Hospital, Amarillo.
He has been named Kris-
topher Duncan and weigh-
ing 8 pounds and 6 ounces.
