''There is no substitute for
a well-balanced diet, since
no vitamin pill contains all
essential nutrients, " she
says.
In addition to the unnec-
essary costs of vitamins,
there are also dangers assoc-
iated with overdosing on
them. Fat soluble vitamins
like A 8 D are stored in tis-
sues where they can accumu-
late and become toxic,

Stress & Vitamin
Requirements
The store shelves are over-
flowing with "stress formula"
vitamin supplements. But
are they necessary?
That depends on how you
define stress, says Dr. Alice
Hunt, a nutrition specialist
with the Texas A8M Univer-
sity Agricultural Extension
Service.
Stress resulting from injury,
infection, fever, shock,
bone fractures or surgery may
increase nutrient require-
ments, she says. But the
stresses of everyday life have
not be scientifically shown
to cause vitamin deficienc-
cies.
The one exception, says
Hunt, is if you eat improper-

A representative of State
Comptroller Bob Bullock
will be in Pampa on Wed-

20th of the month acceler-
ated due date, assist with
renewing liquefied gas de-
cals for vehicles, and an-
swer tax questions.
According to Claudia Stra-
vato, manager of the Comp-
troller's Amarillo office,
J. D. Caproni, Enforcement
Office, will meet with Gray

and efficiently in these face-

said.
Taxpayers who are not

says the specialist.
If you get less than the rec-
ommended allowance for a
vitamin for a few days, how-
ever, that will not create a
vitamin deficiency.
Even the water-soluble B
vitamins and vitamin C are
stored in the body to some
extent, she says. For ex-
ample, it takes 90 days
without vitamin C before
any clinical signs of a de-
ficiency will appear.
Extra stress can be a barr-
ier to good nutrition, but
that doesn't mean you should
automatically self-pre scribe
vitamin supplements, says
Hunt. The best way to im-
prove your nutrition is to in-
