teacher came at age seven “I
taught the kids in my
neighborhood when I wax
seven.” she recalled
"We had a great big porch
outside our house and I would
line up four or five of them so
they could learn how to spell
and other things I was teaching
them when I didn't even know
what teaching wax all about ”

taught Mexican children in Lui
ing while earning her teaching
degree through college
during the summers
She received
undergraduate degree

ty of Houston
Commenting on her leaching
experiences, she said "I have
noticed a change in the children
this year They have all iieen
wonderful throughout the
years, but teaching has bcrti a
little more strenuous this year
than in other years
Her students voice warmth

"She is a real nice teacher

us and she always gave us

tie boys were playing all day
and did not want to do their
work
"When it wax time to go
home they got their books and
xtarted to leave I asked them
where their daily assignment
wax and they got wide eyed and
admitted they didn't have it
"I said that it wax time to
work Their mothers came up
looking for them about an hour
and a half later but left after
learning what happened Those
two bov* stayed there unitl six
o'clock They turned in their
homework and liehaved after
that "
Mrs Hefner * plans include
going home 'To relax and travel
a little tut I'm going to sit down
by the water and throw in a line
and a worm and’ see
