Mary Ellen Smithey is sharing her favorite
Christmas recipe for Fruit Cake Cookies and Almond
Crescents. She says, "This is a Christmas favorite (and I
don't care for sweet and sticky fruit cake). It is not too
sugary. The spices make your home smell heavenly
while baking!"
FRUIT CAKE COOKIES
2 1/4 c. candied fruit and raisins
1/4 c. Rum (can substitute orange juice instead)
1/2 c. sweet butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
* 1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. salt

CRIME STOPPER PRESIDENT KAY WOLF accepted a $100
donation from Aransas Pass Lioness PresMwt Dura Laird on
behalf of the club. The money is used by Crime Stoppers to pay
cash rewards for information that leads to the arrest and grand
jury indictment of the persons responsible for felony crimes. The
Aransas Pass Lioness Club has been very generous in giving to
many organizations in Aransas Pass and has included Crime
Stoppers on their list.

Add sugar and eggs. Beat until fluffy. Sift flour with
baking soda and spices. Add to butter mixture and
blend well. Add nuts and fruit. Cover and refrigerate
over night. Grease cookie sheets. Form into walnut
size balls. Bake at 325* for 10-12minutes. Makes ap-
prox. 6 dz.
Almond Crescents
1 pkg. (10 oz.) Almonds
1 1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Measure 1 2/3 c. almons. Grind
finely in food processor/blender. Firmly
chop remaining almonds and set aside.
Mix flour, sugar and ground almonds.
Work in butter and vanilla. May have to
use fingers for this. Chill for 1 hour.
Roll dough into balls (about 1 1/4 in.)
Then shape into crescents. Press tops
into chopped almonds. Bake on
ungreased cookie sheet at 350* for 12 to
15 minutes until lightly browned.
Cool 10 min. Roll in powdered
sugar if desired. 25-30 crescents.
