Storybook Theatre...
Promoting literacy across America, the Storybook Theatre
preformed for the students at John C. French. Students
were captivated by the story of “Two Pigs and T.H.E. Wolf”
an entertaining twist on the classic "The Three Little Pigs”.
The story combined humor with audience interaction to
emphasize the benefits of making proper choices even in
the most difficult circumstances. (Contributed photo)
Jammin 4 Jesus rally
packs junior
Cuero recently hosted a
Jammin 4 Jesus Back to School
Youth Rally. Cuero Junior High
School was flooded with atten-
dance of around 200 youth. The
rally, a high energy praise and
worship experience, was geared
towards getting youth back to
church and back to God. Youth
from every denomination in the
city, as well as surrounding
areas, were in attendance.
The rally featured praise and
worship singing provided by
Jerusalem Baptist Church and a
DJ from Kingdom Worship
Center. Several gospel rap
high school
groups, dance troupes (including
Charis Praise Troupe from
Charis Outreach Ministry, and
Rammpart Drama of Leander
also performed;
“Youth won’t go to church,”
said Joyce Screws, who is devel-
oping a praise and worship
group to tour from city to city. “
We, as Christians, have to meet
them where they are - in the
park, on the streets - and let
them express themselves in a
positive and Godly way.”
The Next Jammin 4 Jesus
Rally will be held in mid-
January.

Miss Seleslie Pleasants of
Cuero attended the National
Youth Leadership Forum on
Medicine (NYLF/MED) in
Houston-Galveston from July 20
through 29. Having demonstrat-
ed academic achievement and an
interest in a career related to sci-
ence and health, Pleasants
joined more than 400 outstand-
ing high school juniors and
seniors from across the United
States at the forum. Pleasants
Pleasants learned first hand
from medical professionals about
medical ethics, the global effects
of infectious disease, genetic
research, public health and
many other subjects relevant to
field.
“The National Youth
Leadership Forum on Medicine
offers students like Seleslie
Pleasants a behind-the-scenes
look of what it takes to become a
medical professional,” said
Donna Snyder, executive direc-
tor of NYLF. “The curriculum for
the forum on medicine comple-
ments the classroom experience
and allows its participants to
gain an understanding of how to
Seleslie Pleasants
get where they want to be within
the universe of medicine."
Throughout the program,
Pleasants and fellow students
experienced problem-based
learning in a series of intense
and stimulating simulations,
many exercises of which are
faced by students in medical
schools throughout the country.
NYLF/MED culminated in the
Public Health Symposium, in
which students developed pro-
grams to directly impact their
communities on the issues of
adolescent health, care for the
elderly and chronic disease,
among others.
During NYLF/MED, students
had the opportunity to visit some
of the best institutions of med-
ical learning and research in the
country, including Baylor
College of Medicine, University
of Texas Medical Branch, Texas
A&M University System Health
Science Center College of
Medicine, the University of
Texas Health Science Center at
Houston and several others. Not
only did students visit, they also
interacted with doctors, nurses,
scientists and professors to gath-
er a greater understanding of •
medical history, standards and
trends.
NYFL is a nonprofit, educa-
tional organization committed to
empowering young people with
the confidence to make well-
informed career choices.
Seleslie is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Andre and Lavet
Hatter and the late TSGT
William Pleasants and Yolanda
